wow, i think the center stone has to be BIG to have diamonds on the prongs! How cool!
@vistagirl - why do you say that?
My center stone is a little over a carat. I'm a little concerned about the prongs with diamonds making it look smaller vs. small delicate prongs. The jeweler seems to think it will make it look bigger.
Anyone know?
Mrs. Buttons' ring has them...

And she wrote a post with a few pics of others...

ahh i almost got a ring with diamonds on the prongs! i think it's sucha pretty setting! the only reason i didn't go with that type of setting and decided on just a simple solitaire instead was that i am accident prone and clumsy. i constantly have bruises all over my body and i tend to whack my jewelry around a lot. i KNEW i would lose diamonds by whacking it into stuff (the jeweler even advised me against that setting when i said i was accident prone haha). but it's soooo pretty!! :)
My ring has diamonds in the prongs. I don't have a picture of the prongs and I'm not at home so I can't get one, hopefully I remember later ;) My center stone is 1.37 and I love the detail! The only problem I've had is when they put the center stone in the prongs on one of the diamonds in the prong got loose and they had to replace it, so make sure you ask the jeweler to reinforce the prongs on each of the pave diamonds. Nobody would have ever noticed but I knew and with as much as we paid I was going to have those fixed by golly!
My ring has stones on the prongs! Here's a stock photo. My actual ring has a plain band, but is decked out on the prongs. I love it, but one drawback is a lot of people look at my ring from the top view and never notice.
Oh, and I think my prongs make my ring look bigger. This is because the prongs are extended toward the base of the band, making the whole look of the head heftier. I guess a girl's gotta love her centerstone looking larger, eh?
And this sort of ring, while looking classic and basic from the top view, really does look lovely and intricate from a 3/4 view.
Seems like an iffy place to put diamonds. I always read about girls' prongs getting bent or messed up.
@JoJo Bananas: i have to agree with you on this one as I am staring at my own prongs...it seems scary...
Ahh, I'm jealous! So pretty. We didn't think of that, although we did get hearts on the prongs.
@LittleAudrey: Your ring is beautiful. I would love to see photos of your actual ring if you have any. And if you don't mind my asking, how big is your center stone?
I'm leaning towards doing the diamonds on the prongs because I found ones I really like. I'm just waiting to hear from my jeweler to find out if he is able to do something similar with what we already have designed.
Flutterbi- Here's a few pics. My centerstone is 1 carat. I also asked for 1.5 carats, but backed out at the last second because I thought it might look too big (moissanite is so affordable, the difference in price between 1-2 carats is a few hundred dollars.)
As far as the stones popping out, I haven't had any problems. I'm the clumsiest person I know, and have dinged it quite hard at the coffee shop where I work, and everything is still very secure. My metal is palladium, so I don't know if that would effect how sturdy the stones are set.
Verragio has some really beautiful rings with stones on the prongs, as well as pave in scrolling details on the underside of the basket. They are really cool. I had my heart set on them for a while but decided I probably want something more smooth around my finger. You'll see what I mean when you look at them.
Here is my E-ring....It has diamonds on the prongs and underneaththe center stones and band part
!! It's totally gorgeous.
Mine has diamonds on the prongs and two "secret diamonds" underneath. I LOVE it! Hopefully you can make them out in this pic...
Lindseymagan- I am drooling! That is so gorgeous. Is that an aquamarine?
I love rings with diamonds in the prongs thats what i wanted but couldnt find any local under 5k :(
@LittleAudrey: Yep! I am so thrilled with it :) We're going to see if we can get the jeweler to do a band that has some aquamarines in it as well -- maybe alternating with diamonds. Thanks for your sweet compliment!
@BecomingMrsWoods: Yes, it is a Verragio! Great eye :) Yours is gorgeous!
I have a Verragio, too! My ring has diamonds going up the prongs, but on the inside of the prongs rather than on the outside. It really enhances the sparkle of the diamond (though you can't really tell with the pictures....I need to do a better photo shoot...these were taken the day after the engagement....10 months ago!)
Here's another angle. Sorry, I'm getting carried away, but I can't stop! :)

So, my original idea for some of the details on my ring isn't going to work because of how thin I want the band. The jeweler suggested a nice detail to do instead would be to put diamonds up the prongs. I would LOVE to see pictures of anyone who has this on their rings. I'm trying to decide if it's something I like. Thanks!!
