Diaper Question

For all the Mommies out there, how often should you change a babies diaper or how often should you check? Pooping doesn't count because it is pretty obvious, lol.

Weird question, I know but I am wondering about this. I don't want my self-diagnosed OCD to take over and check the baby an obscene amount of times.

    Thanks!

With my older daughter, I was obsessed. I checked her all the time. I eventually relaxed a bit, and just checked as part of her feeding routine. I found that they ate better and played better this way too, so with my younger daughter, I just started doing the check the diaper, then feed right off the bat.

At first, you change them every couple of hours at least.

    Here's a typical schedule:

Baby wakes up, you change him, you feed him, you let him be awake for a bit, you change him, he sleeps, repeat!

You can, and should, go through 10+ diapers a day in the beginning.

Now that my son is 9 months old we change him when he wakes up in the morning, about an hour after his breakfast, after he gets up from his morning nap, about an hour after snack, after he gets up from his afternoon nap and before he goes to bed.

Of course, if he poops we change it right away.

Also, if you use disposables, you may be able to get away with changing them less because the diapers whisk away the moisture so that baby can't feel it.  If you use cloth or gDiapers, you may have to change them more because they are uncomfortable, but in the end they most likely will potty train faster because they don't like the feeling of being wet.

Corn hit it right on the head.  The one good thing is that most newborn disposable diapers have a yellow line on them that turns blue if it's wet.  This will help you learn your baby's schedule in a way.

Once our daughter was out of newborns, we panicked because we had no idea how to tell, but the diaper gets puffy and squishy so you end up just grabbing it to feel.  You'll relax as you learn.

Corn, I can't believe your little guy is 9 months old already!

Are you using cloth?  We just got a huge stash of Bum Genius 3.0 AIOs!
