I was thinking about how a lot of the pomander projects I want to accomplish involve glueing things on a floral ball but the cost of the foam balls is extremely high. The cheapest I’ve seen them sold, even online, has been for 14 dollars.
Has anyone tried to paper mache their own balls with balloons like we did in elementary school? If you do enough layers it should be sturdy enough to carry the weight of tissue paper and crepe paper flowers, right?

It would work, I thought about it, but ended up scratching the idea off the list because of how long it would take. I didn’t have the time to do layer after layer and wait for it to dry. My solution was this- 1)Find a coupon, buy several rolls of duct tape. 2) Save old newspapers. 3)Ball up sheet of old newspaper. 4)continue to ball up newspaper until it was the size I wanted for the pomander. 5)wrap in duct tape 6) Hot glue the tissue paper flowers to the pomander.
The “balls” weren’t perfect circles, but by the time I had them completly covered in flowers you couldn’t tell.

I haven’t tried it, but I saw on here where a bee used the round bath poofs as the center (she got them at the dollar tree) and glued the flowers to that. Looked the same as a pomander with the floral foam underneath to me. Much cheaper.
Also, There are 6packs of the small foam balls at walmart, so if u want to do the paper mâché, you could use those s a sturdy base. they are like 3-4dollars for 6.
