It’s safe to get TDaP DURING pregnancy- my OB office offers the shot and start asking about it during 3rd trimester. I got mine around 36 weeks, and made my husband get one too.

@roxy821:  That’s interesting.  My doctor said I should get one now because I could not get it while pregnancy (maybe just not until the 3rd trimester?) and that it I caught the disease during pregnancy it could create a lot of complications.  She did not say anything about waiting to TTC after the shot.  I also made my husband get it before TTC, just to be safe.

I’m surprised they said 3 months.  The march of dimes website says one month.

Though I’m not sure how accurate it is or maybe your physician has other reasoning, I’d be curious to know why though or that’s just a random number.

I had mine a couple years ago so didn’t need a booster, my husband got his though while I was pregnant.

I’ve heard that you can also get it in the hospital before you leave, if you’re due for one.

I actually got my booster at the hospital, after I gave birth (my husband didn’t need a booster yet).  My understanding is that many hospitals now offer them to new parents before they go home.

I got it.  They told me to wait for one cycle before TTC.  Good luck!

I would get it before TTC if possible.  I didn’t hear about it until I was pregnant, and I got it a week after I gave birth.  Our pedi is at our family practice, and I wasn’t out and about before then.  I had most of my family members get it before then, and I wasn’t really out that first week, anyway.

I got it prior to being pregnant and they told me to avoid pregnancy for 1 month. Pertussis hospitalized a ton of babies in our area so I was doing my first mommy duty.
