Just curious how common of a thing this is. I guess you could just label it a “promise ring”, but that’s not really what it is. My boyfriend proposed to me, and told me that he would get me a ring someday, when he had the money to. I considered us engadged from that point on, ring or not. He had asked me once why boys don’t wear engadgement rings too, so I decided I would get him one, and as it turns out I actually got him his before he got me one! So even though we were already engadged I sort of re-proposed to him with it, haha 🙂 Wondering if anyone else has done this too?

My Fiance and I were just talking about this a couple days ago. I like the idea!

I got my Fiance one…it’s black titanium. I was actually surprised that he wanted to wear it. When I gave it to him, I was like-you don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to. He was thrilled to have it though and wears it everyday.

Well we didn’t get him an engagement ring, but we got his wedding ring made early and he wears it all the time because he likes to. Though now that I think about it, before then he wore his blue diamond ring after he proposed. He has quite the jewel and ring collection (he loves gemstones).
It is actually pretty common in other countries for an engaged man to wear an engagement band.

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
I gave him an XBOX 360. He likes to joke that his rock is so much bigger than mine.

Like Scissors, mine got a Playstation 3, some games, and a new computer monitor 🙂 He’s not really a jewellery kind of guy but I did think it only fair that he get something to mark the occasion too!

I am saving up to get my guy something too… when he proposes. I think I’m going to buy him a whitewater kayak. I’ve always thought that if he saved and worked to buy me something, then he should get something in return. 🙂

Mine has a lovely black band.

My fiance hates jewelry so I dont think i could convince him to wear a ring before he really has to lol

I bought mine an expensive golf club (driver maybe? who knows…) after he got me my ring. However, prior to the engagment I purchased him a PS3 (when they just just just came out!) so we are even!

my Fi doesn’t wear one, but my best friend is engaged to a great guy from the Netherlands, and apparently it’s very common, and quite a tradition for the bride to plan a “proposal” of sorts to her Fiance within the year before the wedding. My friend ended up sending him on a scavenger hunt and then “proposing” it was realy cute!!

We’re getting him an engagement watch 🙂

In Brazil, there’s no such thing as diamond engagement rings, so both the men and women wear an “engagement ring” — basically they wear their wedding ring on the ring finger of their right hand, and switch to the left hand once they’re married.
I love it, bc if you see a guy with a ring on his right hand, you know he’s engaged. I find it unfair that I’m “claimed for” but no one knows he is too just by looking at him!

I gave my husband an engraved stainless steel band when he got deployed. He wore it as a wedding band for awhile until people asked too many questions. he always kept it with him. can’t really have a lot of personal belongings over there and a ring seemed appropriate

I got my husband a ring when we got engaged. He didn’t think it was fair that I showed the world I was “taken” and he didn’t, so he told me he would like a ring as well. We ended up getting it soldered to his wedding band, so now his two rings just look like one bigger ring.
