@1littlep: I know people who have, but I don’t know many details (e.g., did they skip a few pills in a row) or how they discovered – probably a missed period.  I guess this isn’t helpful at all to you.  If you only missed one pill and/or didn’t have sex around when you should be ovulating (usually around day 14) you are most likely not pregnant….

But if you think there is a reasonable chance you are, you might want to test/call your OB as I am not sure you would want to continue taking the pill if you are pregnant…..

I’m curious about this too. I hear about it happening but from what I understand, it is nearly impossible to get pregnant while on the pill. Even if you miss a couple of days, your whole system/cycle is so thrown off that the chances there is a viable egg ready and waiting is so, so slim.

I got pregnant with my first child on the pill. I took my pills at the same time everyday. I just happened to be in that 1%. I just knew I was pregnant, when it happened. I can’t tell you how I knew; it just felt different. The doctor didn’t beleive me, until after they did a blood test.

@noritake22 – wow! that is crazy – I am happy I didn’t believe this could happen before TTC or I would have been seriously freaked out much more often! I relied solely on BC for almost 10 years and pretty much had absolute faith in them 🙂  I took them at night, but certainly not at the same hour – just at whatever time I happened to go to bed that night.  You must be super fertile!

I have not experienced it, but if I weren’t smart about things, it could have.

In November I took an antibiotic for an infection in my gum.  Luckily we used back up birth control methods.  A few weeks later I felt myself ovulate, right on schedule.

I am glad I’m super strict about taking my pills, cause it seems like my body adjusted pretty quickly when my pills where slightly affected by the antibiotics…

That’s how my mom got pregnant with me. One of my neices was conceived while her mom was on the pill and took an antibiotic. I also have another close friend who is due in October. She was on the pill and had been for probably about 5 years!

@jedcaj: Hmm. My doctor just told me that the study about antibiotics affecting bc pills has been challenged in recent years and the medical jury is still out on it. According to him, most doctors don’t think it has an affect anymore.

This thread is making me paranoid!!

@Edina:I wouldn’t be to worried she is the only one I know that this has happened. And the baby is 3.5 now so maybe things have changed!

From what I understand, it depends on the person, the antibiotic & the type of birth control.  Some pills are not affected, Some people are not affected by the combo, but I definately was.  Some pills are only “slightly” weakened by the effects of the drug combo.  I FELT my ovulation, never have before in my life.  Then missed my next period.  I was a wreck.  4 negative pregnancy tests, and the next month, all was back to normal.

Some people are really sensitive to antibiotics, I’m one of them.  When I take them, I have to get a triple perscription for yeast infection treatment, cause I will get whopper infections from the antibiotics.. I get essentially every side effect – so it isn’t suprising that they make my pills less effective.

@jedcaj: Thanks! I might worry about this too much. My friend told me and some girlfriends that she was pregnant a while ago and that she and her husband “were surprised.” I waited at least a few seconds before I asked for details ie, “HOW?!?!?” Classy, I know.

Turns out, they used no protection at all! Can’t really be too surprised then…She gave us all a good panic attack over that one.

i dont take the pill because it screws with my hormones but the other day my mom told me that both my little sister and i were concieved while she was taking the pill (and doing it at the same time every day). i just dont like to risk it so we use condoms and try to keep track of my schedule also. i also have plan b around just to be safe because of all the horror stories i have heard about condoms breaking and such.

I got pregnant on the pill and no I did not miss taking any, nor was I taking antibiotics. Think of it this way – the pill is supposed to be 99% effective and MILLIONS of women take it so SOMEONE has to get pregnant on them! And I knew when I started getting morning sickness, which for me was all-day sickness for the first few weeks.
