Because we’re getting married on the beach and the picnic shelter that we’re having the reception at on the beach doesn’t have electrical outlets, we were originally considering just doing an iPod wedding. I was totally fine with it, until I started looking at costs to rent all of the equipment we were going to need to make it work.
So I started considering an acoustic guitarist. The guy that I found is AMAZING and is willing to do the prelude, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (which all in all, everything is only 4 hours) for $350 including travel.
Now I’m having a hard time finding good, non traditional acoustic songs! I have been all over Youtube, but there has to be an easier way to do it. Does anyone have the songs that they used or some suggestions?
Thanks in advance ladies!

I had one. For music we choose: Beatles Here comes the sun, what a wonderful world/somewhere over the rainbow, greensleves (presessional), estudio (Tarrega), and I think he played some other stuff? (our guitar player was a the brother of one of my groomsmen, he was a little hard to work with and although we gave him a list of stuff to play, the only thing I knew for sure that he actually did was greensleves) As far as I can tell he did a nice job though.
Something that I did that really helped my music selection was listening to people playing the songs in guitar on youtube. DH also does some guitar playing and downloaded a program that played the different parts to a song, so you could here just the chorous. I’m having a hard time finding the information to that program though.
It also doesn’t hurt to talk with the guitarist to see if he has any suggestions.

@auggiefrog: Thank you for the suggestions! I am actually meeting with him on Friday and he’s going to bring some suggestions and his guitar as well, but I want to get my own list together too 🙂

He probably has lots of suggestions if he does this professionally… he’ll probably learn whatever you want if you give enough notice.

- Wedding: July 2012 - The Gables Inn, Santa Rosa, CA
This is what we did for the ceremony, but don’t worry too much about finding “acoustic songs” just give hima list and he’ll be able to find acousitc versions for just about anything. You can also visit a local music store and ask them what sheet music they’ve got to get ideas.

We did but he also sang although the music would have been just as beautiful without vocals.
For the ceremony it was:
Love & Some Verses – Iron & Wine (Processional)
Such Great Heights – Iron & Wine (Signing of the registry) & he threw in a Jason Mraz song (don’t remember what!) because we took longer
First day of my life – Bright Eyes (Recessional)
Ours had a list of songs as suggestions so I’m sure yours will too!

We’re doing very traditional songs, but our guitarist offered to learn up to 4 songs (if he didn’t already know them) for our wedding. He also had a list of songs he knows already & had performed before, so ask your guitarist if he has a list. For some of the more common songs he had samples recorded already so you could hear him playing.

We had an accoustic guitarist and he was phenomenal!
He played a Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis Prestley for me walking down the aisle, and it was beautiful!
But I agree wholeheartedly with @Juliette.eliza no matter what songs you choose, a good guitarist should be able to do an accoustic version of it.

My FI just played acoustic guitar at a wedding over labor day weekend and it sounded great! He has his music degree and studied Jazz/Blues guitar at school. My best advice for you before really committing to a musician is to make sure the music you pick is in his preferred genre and skill level!
My FI played as a favor for his brother in laws sisters wedding and she ended up sending him all of this very, very classical guitar music. He is not a classical guitarist and apparently it is very different techniques. My FI was able to play some of it but not all of it and it was very stressful Fr him and the bride! Now if she wanted Beatles or Jazz he would of not had a problem 🙂
Talk with him and see if he can send you some of his recordings! Either way acoustic guitar sounds beautiful and it is going to be great!
