My FI and I have been talking about maybe having our 5 year old son walk me down the aisle.
We still haven’t decided if we want to do that, or have him be a ring bearer, but I think he would feel so much happier walking down the aisle towards daddy with his mommy! Do you think it would be too weird?
Does anyone have any pictures of their son (or daughter) walking them down the aisle?

My son will be walking me down the aisle, but he’ll be 15 years old and quite a bit taller than me. Can you hold his hand without having to lean way far over in your dress? I would make sure you figure out the logistics of walking with a 5 year old down the aisle but I think it would be adorable and so very meaningful to all three of you!

@fuzzyslipper: I’m not married but I think this is a beautiful idea! Your wedding is an important day for your son, too, and I think the idea of having him bring you over to Dad is very touching and represents you as a family.

My 17 year old son walked me down the aisle as my Dad moved onto the spirit world many years ago. It’s a very special moment in your life so it would be wonderful to have him be a part of it in such a wonderful way. As he is young I agree with the previous post will he be able to hold your hand without making it awkward for you to be able to enjoy the moment

@Jen041815: Yeah, my son is tall enough and my dress isn’t very big so I don’t think there would be a problem with it being awkward or one of us having to lean. =)
@nativedesires: Your pictures are wonderful! You can tell by the look in both of your faces in the last one how much it means to you both!

@fuzzyslipper: I think it’s a lovely idea! Not quite the same, but my adult brother walked my mother down the aisle when she remarried.
I did a web search and found two photos of younger boys (not quite as young as yours though) walking their mother down the aisle. (I’ve posted links because I’m not sure about copyright):

I walked in on the arm of my son. He’s 30 though so not a child. It was lovely though!

My son is walking me down the aisle. He is 11 and just a teeny bit shorter than me. He was very honored when I asked him if he was comfortable with this and said YES! right away!

Reading this, all I can think of is when your officiant asks, “Who gives this woman to be married?” your son yells, “ME!”
Sorry, I have an active imagination … but how cute is that???

@fuzzyslipper: my sister had her 6 year old son walk her down the isle…and it was really cute…he was such a big boy….and his young brother was a ring bearer, they both gave her away….i thought it was really neat and important because it was the two families joining as one…and the fact they were all involved….i thought it was cute and appropriate….
