We’ll be going up to my parents cottage for a week. It’s budget friendly, right across the road from the lake, there’s a little community church where I know some people. It’s also an 8 hour drive, but that’s ok.
My parents went camping. In a tent.
What about you bees? Has anyone just gone roughing it or camping or glamping or take an RV and travel for the honeymoon?
Could you stand it?

@Ellyloo: My parents went camping for their honeymoon. We’re….not. It might be nice, but we have other plans for our honeymoon.

We thought about renting an RV in New Zealand, but time constraints didn’t allow it. That would have been amazing though.
I’m also a sucker for cabins/lakes/outdoors so going to your family cabin sounds super fun to me!

We were thinking about it but then we were gifted a few days at a super nice condo. Otherwise, yeah, car camping is super fun and can be quite cushy.

@Ellyloo: my parents went camping for their honeymoon, apparently you can zip two sleeping bags together 🙂

My husband and I love to camp. We’ve done backpacking in the past and have a teeny tiny awesome lightweight tent. And we got a really nice car camping tent from some friends for the wedding. But not so much for the honeymoon. Well…we went on safari in Kenya and stayed in a “tent”. But our tent had a king sized bed, a desk, a day bed, a closet, sinks, a running toilet, and hot indoor and outdoor showers. We did hike out to a bush site one night and stay in a pup tent which is a bit closer to real camping. But even then they brought us a king sized matress, set up a hot shower and pit toilet and sent a guide and two staff to cook dinner and take care of us. It was kind of ridiculous. But it was nice to get to talk to the staff and watch them make dinner on a an open fire. And pretty impressive. But yeah. I don’t think we get to count this as roughing it…
My husband took this picture standing on the porch of the tent above:

We went to Fiji so no lol. But I wouldn’t have been against camping, road tripping, or lakeside sitting!

@Ellyloo: I voted Hell No.. but not because it’s cheap, just because we aren’t camping people.

I voted hell no, but not because it’s cheap – I love cheap!! I just hate camping. I’d rather stay home.

I love camping. But for a honeymoon I feel like it should be something extra special, and we can go camping anytime

@Ellyloo: We’ll be going to my cabin for our honeymoon. Like yours, it’s on a lake.
Fiance and I love it and often think of different ways we could ditch our committments in our current town and move up there.
It’s also where Fiance proposed.

@Ellyloo: We camp alllllll the time, so no, we won’t do it for our honeymoon. We do camp for holidays a lot though, always a week or more over Christmas somewhere nice.
I just wanted something different, special and nice for our once in a lifetime honeymoon.

We stayed in an awesome little cabin near Lake Michigan.

We talked about backpacking for our honeymoon!
I thought it would be fun. But airfare alone would have cost us more than our entire two week honeymoon ended up costing us.
