ME!!!!!!!!!!! I found my dress online a full FOUR months before I was ever able to try it on.
I had gone one other time before to try on dress.. but really just b/c I could. lol
And I love your dress! It looks amazing on you!!!!!!!!!!
I had looked online and knew what my favorite was - based on pics on real brides from the 'Bee and the reviews on the David's website, since their ad photos for the dress are TERRIBLE.
It was chiffon, which I adore, casual and light... when I went to the store they pulled some other gowns for me but I didn't bother.
I tried my favorite on and about 10 minutes later was out the door with the dress ordered and paid for :)
Sure, I may have found something else if Ikept trying stuff on, but I liked it, knew it was very 'me' and didn't want to waste any more time.
Can't wait to wear it - 25 days to go!
I tried on dresses and narrowed it down to Maggie Sottero. I went though all of her dresses online and picked my favorites. The Harlow was number 1 on my list. I knew it would be perfect. I call the shops in my town that carried her line and only one store had one of the Maggie Sottero dresses I wanted; And it was the Harlow. It was fate. Tried it on. No tears or anything but I knew!
I did! When we discussed getting engaged, I started looking online and began lusting over a particular Lazaro gown, #3819. The more I looked at it, the more IN LOVE I fell with it and when the boy finally popped the question, I chose the bridal salon to try on gowns based on what stores carried my Lazaro. She was the first one I tried on and it was everything I imagined but I did try on about 10 gowns just to make sure. In the end, I went with my original love and 2 years later, I am 11 days from wearing it down the aisle and I love it just as much as I do then!
@Miss Polka Dot Bride: I LOVE the silhouette on you and the lace is beautiful!
My lovely 2 years ago when I bought her :)
I saw the edge of mine sticking out in a sales rack, and then I saw the price tag - it was destiny. I paid $299 and looking at it now I am SO happy I didn't splurge on the Claire Pettibone I originally wanted. On the fastest day of my life, I never want to wear the most expensive clothing I'd ever purchase.

I just knew that I wanted to wear a certain designer and I hunted down every sample dress in my budget. My 1st option didn't fit and wan't the One. My 2nd option was my Girl. It took the 1st fitting for me to almost cry but I knew when I opened the box, she was the one.
Congrats on finding your Dress. She's gorgeous.
@thewheelsonthebus: Haha so true!!! I would have been open to trying on David's dresses but a lot of their pics on the website simply stink. I appreciate the model-esque poses but I'd prefer to see the front of the dress, thank you. :-)
Yay! So glad I'm not the only one! I watch Say Yes to the Dress and hear people going shopping many times, having dress regret, etc. I was the total opposite and felt weird, although lucky!
@mrsmurraytobe: WOWSA! Beautiful Gown! Can't wait to see your recap!
Yes! That was definetly me. I fell in love with my dress when looking at the designer's webpage following my best friend shopping for her dress and she had tried on one of their gowns. A year later I bought my gown, my first love and the one.

@Prewitt: i love this dress - benjamin roberts 930 i think... see, i have it memorised!
Yes, me!!!!!!!! Your dress is gorgeous btw :)
Here's my story... sorry it's kinda long, but I believe in this stuff!
I looked extensively at dresses online, nothing really appealed to me and I was worried I would never find something that I liked. Everyone told me it's different when you go dress shopping, so we did. Still didn't find anything I really got a feeling about. So I kept looking online, and there was definitely one that stood out to me finally! I went to a few bridal stores after that asking if they had this dress to try on, but none of them did :( It was a 2010 dress, and by then, all the 2011 styles were out. So I went to this bridal store on my lunch hour even though the website said their location didnt carry that dress, thought I might find something else. I asked in the store if they had the dress, just to be sure, and they said no. So we picked a bunch out to try on. I go in the change room, and right away noticed the dress, one of the consultants had picked it out for me to try on! I checked the tag, and sure enough, it said cheyenne. So I told the lady, "this is the dress I was asking you about that you said you didnt have!!!" and she's like, "weird, we're not supposed to have it"... it looks like someone ordered it and then didn't buy it, so they used it as a sample. I tried it on, LOVED it, and ended up ordering it, with the bees help too ;) Funnily I went back a few months later to show my girls, and they sold the sample... so I feel like it was there at that perfect time for me to find to try on, like it was totally meant to be!
Here it is :) It should be coming in soon for my first fitting!

I did! I started looking at dresses online about a month before I actually got engaged cuz I knew it was coming soon. I fell in love with "Toni" by Maggie Sottero. It was everything I wanted. Chiffon, flowy, yet had a fitted bodice, drop waist and corset back. It got discontinued as soon as I got engaged. No bridal salon could order it for me. I almost gave up on it but one day it popped up in Google search for an eBay auction. A bridal salon in Ohio was selling their sample of it. The auction was so nerve wrecking, I probably would've bid pretty high for it. Thankfully I was the highest bidder and I only paid $206! I wasn't worried about buying a dress without trying it on because I'm tall and thin. I pretty much know what styles will work for my body. So here it is after alterations (the sample was huge on me) and the model pics. Love my dress!
I obsessed over my dress for months before I was able to try it on. I called numerous stores in my area to see which ones had the dress to try on. I ended up finding a store that was having a Jim Hjelm trunk show, made sure they were going to have the dress I wanted to try on, and I made an appointment.
Here she is
I got engaged about two years ago, which is around the time I fell in love with this dress: I'm not getting married until December of this year, but I finally bought the dress a few months ago.

It was too expensive, so I went through a phase where I tried desperately to fall in love with another dress, but it just wasn't happening.
I bought it off a WB forum for only $700 without even trying it on :x And I LOOOOVE it.
I saw mine on the Priscilla of Boston website before I even had a boyfriend (a good friend of mine was getting married around this time and I wanted to see what kind of dress moved me). A day after I got engaged I was on the phone with the local Priscilla of Boston store trying to track down a sample since it had been discontinued (luckily I had saved the website which happened to have the style number). They had it shipped, it was the first dress I tried and I am 100% sure it is my dress, just like I was sure back then.
I knew exactly what I wanted going into the shop, and had the picture of my dress with me. Luckily, they had it in the store and I just knew when I tried it on that I was totally right about what I wanted going in to the whole thing! I'm putting a crinoline underneath to give it more flare :)
@mrsmurraytobe: I am in serious dress envy right now though! BEAUTIFUL!!!

I ordered mine off the internet in a final sale for $199 because I was too scared to pass it up!! I had been looking at it every day for months so Ijust went for it!

i thought i would hate my dress. i only tried it on because it was on sale and my consultant brought it in.
I think I have found my dress. I've looked at wedding dresses for years online... and there have been lots that I've bookmarked or saved to the "wedding" file, but only one has really captured my heart completely, the Lazaro 3059

I'm from Australia. When I was in NYC, I specifically went to Kleinfeld because I checked ahead of time that they carried this style. It was the ONLY dress I asked them to show me.
If I hadn't of been much heavier at the time than I hope to be for my wedding next year (and if the alterations ladies hadn't of warned me that the dress can't be altered drastically without damaging the details), I would have ordered it on the spot.
The terrifying thing though is that once I finish losing the weight and order the closest size possible, I will have to order sight unseen, without trying it on again and without seeing what it will really look like on me again. It's scary... but I can't imagine loving a dress more than this one. All of your stories have given me hope that perhaps sometimes we are drawn to the dresses which are perfect for us.
@thewheelsonthebus: yay to you, getting close!! we'll be seeing your recaps pretty soon!
ladies, thank you for your sweet comments! i LOVE all the gown pictures y'all have posted. great taste :)
@Miss Polka Dot Bride: thank you for starting this thread! i love hearing about these stories. isn't it funny how you always go back to the original love? you are going to make a beautiful bride!
@sfchick: i LOVE the picture of you coming up the steps, stunning! you made a beautiful bride!
@7-9-11bride: I love this dress on you!! You look better than the model (no offense to her). :-)
Kinda. The first time I went dress shopping, I tried on a few gowns and none of them were quite right. As I was leaving the salon, they gave me a magazine to look at bridesmaid dresses and I found a wedding gown that I loved. I went home and looked it up online and I just knew it was the one! I tried on a bunch of different dresses after that but kept thinking about the one. Finally, I tried to track it down. I called every bridal salon within 100 miles from me and nobody had it. My bridal salon decided to order a sample for their store so I could see what I thought and I loved it! Now it's all mine!! :) In fact, it's the only thing that I havent changed my mind about throughout my whole wedding planning process!

@LilianHarlow: R u looking to sell this dress? If so what size is it an how much are u looking to get for it?
I knew I would be a Watters bride before I went dress shopping. The dresses were just so on par with my style and with the look I was going for that nothing else compared.

After I got engaged, I started looking online at David's website and fell in love with this one: Oleg Cassini CT258
![]()
But when I went there, they didn't have it in stock to try on, and wouldn't call another store to find out if they had one. So I struck out on the one I thought I was in love with. After dealing with the people at that Davids, I had no desire to even go to another.
I went back to the internet, and so did my mom. We both picked out the same dress online. I really fell in love with this one, but I was afraid it would be too expensive. Went to the store, tried it on, and knew it was my dress. I still tried on a few more, but everything I was picking out had at least a few similar elements to mine. When I looked at all the ones I had pulled and realized that fact, I knew for sure. Here it is:

I actually saw my dress on "Teen Mom 2" before I had even started looking for dresses. They didn't mention the designer so I spent a few days tracking the dress down. I tried it on and loved it but my mom hated it so I didn't buy it right away. I actually bought a sample dress from another salon that wouldn't come clean before finding a greaaattt deal on Ambrosia :o) LOVE
I saw mine on the hanger in the store and gasped outloud. So yeah.. I think I knew right away but it took trying on 20 other dresses to be sure.
As soon as I saw my dress in a picture, I knew it was perfect! When I went into a salon that carried it, I tried on 1 other dress first, just to make sure that I didn't fall in love with a dress just because it was the first wedding dress I ever tried on. Then I tried on 'the one' and there was no comparison. Everything else looked awful to me after trying it on. I put a veil on, cried, and handed over the credit card.
Sometimes I wonder if I was too hasty because it seemed too easy, but then I look at other dresses and know I made the right choice!
This is a picture of my dress, except mine is ivory and I'll have a beaded belt instead of a bow. Its Vera Wang's Hayley dress. I love how unique it is!

@Zouave: HOW AMAZING IS IT!!
I have just purchased the same dress!! What sash did you wear with it?? I'm wanting two (one for the reception, one for ceremony).
How tall are you? I'm 5"1. I hope It doesn't look shocking.... but i fell in love with it also! :)
@LilianHarlow: Ooh I LOVE this dress! Can I ask, how much it's going to cost? Also, is it heavy and uncomfortable to wear?
I ordered and paid for my dress without ever trying it on or even seeing it in real life! What a leap of faith that was - it was all done via phone and email, as I'm in Australia and my dress was in New York!
I have it now, and it's everything I could possibly dream of and more! Fits like a glove and no alterations necessary
It's the Vera Wang Gemma.

And on me. It was the train that won my heart
Definitely a huge gamble, but I just knew it was "The One" and went with my heart.

I happen to love reading about everyone's experiences wedding dress shopping. Some have tried on hundreds, some want us to vote to help them decide, and some are dying to get one by a certain designer.
So. I wanted to pose the question that reflected my dress experience. After becoming an engaged lady I of course began looking at bridal magazines in ernest, and I do admit I went through a couple phases of "types" of wedding dresses and became familiar with certain designers I felt were within my price range. Then I stopped looking and thought about what I actually wanted to look like on my wedding day. My responses? Romantic, elegant, comfortable...a dress that has a little bit of everything but not too over-the-top. Then I looked again. At that point I came across Mon Cheri's "Dion" (style #210271) and knew that would be my dress. I tried on 9 others to be sure and even was surprised by several of my other favorites - Shelby and Regina. But after putting Dion on once more, I knew that I would choose the one I fell in love with months before.
Did anyone know they had found "the one" before even trying on a single wedding dress?
