jouissance:  this happened to a good friend of mine, she never got a positive OPK but got pregnant anyway. how long have you been trying? I know many on these boards have had success with charting so that may be a good option for you!

CD14 may not be your day. I O’d anywhere from CD11 to CD22 and still had “normal” length cycles – my LP was just super short. So it’s totally possible you won’t O for a few more days.

jouissance:  I agree with Glasgowbound, don’t lose all hope just because you haven’t ovulated by CD14!  Many women don’t.  I actually had “average-length” cycles (28-30 days), and in my year of charting before getting pregnant, I never ovulated before CD16 (my average was CD18 and my latest was 23).  I had a 10-11 day luteal phase, so even with a later ovulation, I still had an average-length cycle. (also, I was so worried that my luteal phase length would be a problem getting pregnant, but it wasn’t!  Got knocked up first month trying).

I don’t normally ovulate until at least day 20 so I wouldn’t freak out about it quite yet. Is this your first month using the OPKs?

I was wondering the same thing! I used a few OPKs last month around the time I thought I would O. The line was dark, but not as dark as the control line and got lighter when I tested later. I tested this month when I thought I should O, and the line was soooo light! So I’m worried I didn’t O and this is our first month ttcing. I ran out of OPKs and I kind of don’t want to buy more because I know I’ll obsess over taking then and worry and stress myself out. So we’re just BDing every other day like my doctor suggested and hopefully I’ll see a BFP soon!

My RE swore up and down that if I was having regular cycles less than 35 days long, I was definitely ovulating even without positive opks. He said they just don’t work for some women.

Me! I was testing, temping and charting on FF last month when I got my bfp but I never got a positive OPK. I was testing with OPK’s 2 times per day! I also never got the celebratory cross hairs on my FF chart. I’m 6 weeks pregnant today. I’m guessing that my LH surge must have happened between testing since I did get a few good dark test lines but they were never darker than the control.

jouissance:  maybe you’re drinking too much water? The box of OPKs I bought said not to drink water for four hours before testing.

Live been drinking more water lately as well so I hope that’s why my lines were so light! Or maybe I misted O’d later in my cycle.

I was using OPKs (not very strictly) the month we TTC. I had been off BC for a few months before we were going to start trying and my periods were all over the place so I thought I’d try them to see if I was ovulating. the line did get darker for a few days but was never darker than the test line (so never actually positive)…We were out of town for a day so I didn’t bring any with me, thought I o’d due to ovulation pains, took one when I got back and no second line. 2 weeks later got a positive pregnancy test…soooo yeah guess I did ovulate! I think it’s a pretty small window when you actually get the positive ovulation test.

jouissance:  I don’t think it’s recommended to use FMU because the hormone the OPK detects is produced during the day. From what I’ve read, testing in the afternoon/evening is best.

I never got any postives and got a bfp. My cycles were long and irregular, but I was charting. I think I drank waaaay too much water for them to work on me.
