Not seen it… but now I want to! Can you get it on the internet?

I remember the first time I met foraging peoples. I was maybe 17? 18?

They must have thought I was a right twat. I have a feeling that I was the butt of a LOT of jokes…

j_jaye:  I was really wanting to watch it but didn’t even realise it was on last night! I’ll have to take full advantage of the link you posted when I get home from work 🙂 THANKS!

j_jaye:  Grrr… “this content is currently unavailable”. Can’t watch any of it, or “Awaken”.

Part of the reason I would have been interested in seeing it because I’m working within a theoretical paradigm at the moment to do with “hunter-gatherer theory”. Basically, it argues that foraging peoples have so many social institutions in common that we can compare certain data cross-culturally. It also argues that many of our beloved theories about economics, politics, sociality and sexuality all arise from an agriculturalist perspective, and are not good ways to examine foraging cultures. We need new theories in order to examine these societies, and their adaptations to modern capitalism.

Did you ever see “Meet the Natives”? It’s on youtube. Really interesting clash of cultures documentary from a people not 100% dissimilar to people I’ve lived with in the past. I suspect First Contact is very different though. I bet most of the Aborigines on that program are probably very modern, speak multiple languages including fluent English, and that most of them are probably very urbanised and eloquent.

j_jaye:  Yeah I saw the articles but didn’t want to read them until after I watch it. Unfortunately my FI has zero interest in this sort of stuff so I generally have to find time to watch them when he isn’t home haha.
