@trying_to_keep_hope:  DH had the intention of proposing on my bday in October and was so excited he bought the ring and gave it to me in May… so it does happen 🙂

@trying_to_keep_hope:  Last June we had our discussion where we picked our wedding date and decided to start ring shopping. I told FI that I wanted at least 1.5 years to plan, so I’d appreciate it if he could propose by last October (lol), but by the end of the summer would be best since I’d have to do some planning while I’m still in grad school.

Then I had this whole idea of a specific weekend that would be great for the proposal (at the beginning of August after my summer classes ended). He agreed, but actually thought it was silly to wait that long after he got the ring. He ended up proposing 9 days after he got the ring (on July 4th).

He said he would have proposed the day he got the ring, but I was being annoying with my “beginning of August” talk, and he needed me to say it was okay to do it sooner lol. I was being ridiculous. Not sure why I wanted him to wait longer!

@trying_to_keep_hope:  My FI and I had discussed a timeline that would have him proposing by March of this year. (Mostly because he was saving for the ring.) But then something came up where it made sense to cash in an investment and he opted to buy the ring in the first week of Novemeber. He got it delievered to work on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and proposed on Thursday on our way to his mom’s house. LOL I was pretty surprised. I absolutely thought I had a few more months to wait and was getting all pissy about the MANY engagements happening already and knew I’d have to stop being bitter because we were just heading into “engagement season”. Thank goodness…. I know 4 other people who got engaged after me but before New Year! I would have been such a bitch.

@trying_to_keep_hope:  YES, every guy I know who had an elaborate plan changed it as soon as they had the ring in hand and proposed the day they got the ring instead! lol

Mine was planning to propose December 2013 and ended up proposing October 2012. He planned to do it on our cruise in jan 13 then figured there was no reason to wait and if he did it on the cruise I would expect it

@trying_to_keep_hope:  I definitely think that’s part of why I was doing it! I knew he was nervous about the proposal itself (like how to do it/what to say), so I wanted to give him more time so he’d feel comfortable. But he didn’t want more time! Makes me happy to think he was too excited to wait 🙂

Sounds like your SO is chomping at the bit as well! Let him move up the date…our engagment will be 21 months long and we’re already 6 months in. It’s totally flown by! And I’ve had my first pick of dates with vendors since I’m booking so far in advance. Makes it less stressful!

Yep proposed about 6 months before we talked about.  He said that once he had the ring he couldn’t contain the excitement for that long

My SO had an intention of proposing by my birthday in September as I had previously stated I wanted two years or more to plan…however, I think he already purchased a ring and it doing it Valentine’s Day!

@trying_to_keep_hope:  My SO promised to get engaged by X date so we could get married on our anniversary in 2013. He actually proposed 10 months after the date he had promised we would be engaged by, and we are getting married a year and a half after we planned (my sister got engaged first and took the month we wanted, so we had to push back ours. My best advice is not to get stuck on any dates and be flexible- it will happen and when it does, it will be great!
