When my wonderful fiance proposed, he was sitting across a table from me, and slid the box over to me. There was no getting down on one knee, and I put my ring on myself.

When my friends & aquaintences asked me if he got down on one knee, they all seemed suprised when I said, "No!"

For us, it was perfect! I wouldn't have envisioned it any other way.

Did anyone else's now-fiances NOT get down on one knee?

For a milisecond, then he said "uh the ground hurts my knee". And he didn't want people staring at us since we were at a park =]

It bothered me for like a week. Then I realized I was being silly

The boy didn't get down on his knee. I'd have been mortified if he did. It's just not US.

The proposal was very sweet anyway.

When my FH proposed in early December, he too didn't get down on one knee. He did try to put the ring on but both of our hands were shaking like crazy and I was hysterically crying and trying to hug him at the same time. Now that I look back, had I been a bird in the sky passing by I would have wondered what the heck we were doing, haahaahaa

Like you mention for yourselves - for us it was the most perfect series of events and I wouldn't have had it any other way either Laughing

LOL, my FI woke me up in bed and put the ring in my glasses free, blind as a bat face and said "Do you want this?" There was no knee, or at least if there was I didn't notice!

    Some romances aren't traditionally romantic.

Awe! No...my guy didn't get down on one knee either. He was so nervous that he forgot! LOL...I tease him about it on occasion, but honestly, the proposal was very sweet and very us, and I thought it was adorable that he was so nervous that he forgot :o)

I dont think it matters if he goes down on one knee.  Its the gesture that matters and he wants to marry you thats all that counts x

Mine didn’t. Short story is we were still in bed one random morning, he looked beyond nervous/scared lol and I kept asking him what was wrong, finally he just handed me the ring box without saying anything. When I said “what is this?” he says “umm, do you want it? I mean, want to get married?”

So yeah, not the most romantic story, but hey, it worked! Wink

He did get down on one knee..but he didn't get a chance to put the ring on my finger bc I grabbed it out of his hand and put it on myself!

Can you tell I was a little excited?!  :)

We didn't even have a proposal.  We just decided it was time to start telling my family we were going to get engaged, then tell his family we were, then tell everyone else.

Like with you, it was perfect for us, though people were a little surprised when we told them.

Nope, we were at dinner.  HE was across the table from me.  Didn't bother me though, the evening was still perfect.

My FI got down on one knee and then back up so quickly that I wasn't sure if he was doing lunges or proposing.

Mine did...and it's a good thing he did because I was shaking so bad from shock that I had to sit down on his knee!

Mine didn't... we were in the car.  I guess his plan was to get me to get out and walk down a dock on the water.  However, it was about 20 degrees out and he couldn't think of how to explain a good reason for getting out of the car!  It was all good though - I just cared that he did it!

Mine didn't either.  He was sitting on the bed, and asked me to sit down beside him.  Instead I sat on his lap, thus ruining the moment :)

    It was perfect though!

Nope, he was sitting on the beach and I came and sat next to him.  He also handed me the ring and I had to put it on myself.  I wasn't disappointed, though!  The proposal was adorable.  The left the ring box on our kitchen table with a note telling me to meet him at the beach.  He was there in a suit with music and flowers.

My fiance did get down on one knee, but I put the ring on myself, because I was wearing another ring on that finger that I had to take off first!

We were on the couch and he hid the ring in a box of chocolates as we were exchanging gifts, so no knee.. in the privacy of his house.. it was perfect.

He did not get down on one knee.  We were in the sky tram that takes you up to a winery in Napa.  It's very small, so there wasn't really room.  Although, I kinda think he picked that location partly for that reason.  Still great though!

We were laying in my bed being lazy on Christmas morning when FI proposed. No kneeling, and that's just fine.

Mine didn't either.  We were walking the paths along a lake and the path was a little muddy that day.  People always think it's weird that he didn't, but I would have thought he was out of his mind if he did :P

I like this thread a lot!  My fiance did not get down on one knee at first - he just handed the ring box to me.  I ordered him to get down on one knee.  He grabbed the couch for dear life and told me that "getting down on one knee is barfy."  Yes, the word "barf" made it into his proposal.  Then I permitted him to get up, and of course said yes.

It was perfect, and makes for a hilarious story for our friends and family.  I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Nope.  We were sitting on a bench looking in the same direction (not towards each other) and he tap-tapped me on the shoulder.

Mine didn't. I had to make him even ask the question because he tried to just hand it to me. It was ok though, because I was happy just to get engaged.

Ooo, no he didn't.  He probably would have fallen over if he did, since we got engaged practically during a hurricane...

I am pretty sure he did, even though he has a bad knee! (I yelled at him later on, kidding of course) but yeah, it was hard for me to even think, let alone SEE since I was all teary eyed.

haha I love reading all these stories.  Mine did not get down on his knee.  He told me to close my eyes and he had his arm around my sholder and the other hand held out the open box.  He did put it on my finger though.  I'm glad he didn't get down on his knee, we were on our lunch breaks at work and standing on the corner of the street!!! lol

Mine didn't either!  We were laying in bed on the morning of my birthday and he was acting really strange and finally he said, "well, I have one last birthday present for you"....and opened the box and put the ring on my finger.  He didn't say anything so I just said, "well what does this mean?" and then he asked me to marry him!  Of course, I made him ask me like 3 more times that morning just to be sure...

And then he took it to the jewelers a few weeks later to have it sized and when he gave it back to me I made him put it on my finger ask me again Kiss

He didn't get down on his knee and I'm glad! I don't like a lot of attention so it would have been WAY too much for me. We were sitting in the car having a heartfelt conversation and he just blindsided me with it. He pulled the ring out of his pocket, said "I love you SO much, will you marry me?" It was perfect!

My guy did get down on one knee but I honestly don't remember if he put the ring on me. I am pretty sure he just handed me the box? I remember it was really dark and I was just trying to see what the ring looked like! haha. We had to walk down the beach to get better light so i could see it. I feel like he probably didn't put it on me.... I also feel like this is something that I should remember.... :)

hehehe.  I just tried to imagine my boyfriend down on one knee and started laughing.  It kinda makes me think he'll be bowing to me or something.  It seems a little goofy to me.  I think he'll do something a little different.  But who knows?!?!  I'll do my best to not giggle if he does get down on one knee.

Nope, FI has sitting on my bed.  But about 15 minutes after he proposed and I calmed down, I said, "Aw, you didn't get down on one knee." And because he is wonderful, he did it for me AGAIN (this making the third time because I thought he was joking the first time).

It was perfect though and very "us."
