Our wedding is in than two weeks and we were trying to determine our ceremony music. The processional will be an upbeat, lovey song (like Lucky by Jason Mraz or something), my song will be the traditional bridal chorus (a pretty, piano variety)… Annnddd… FI has requested… Wait for it…
Love and Marriage by Frank Sinatra, for our departure… Yes. As in, the theme song to Married With Children!
I almost gasped in horror when he said it. Until, I actually played it on YouTube, as I envisioned it. I seriously died laughing, because it is so “us” to throw a cheeky little detail into something that is usually so classic and traditional. Our entire wedding is super romantic-themed… So, we would initially look confused for a moment, shrug and then he will happily whisk me away down the aisle.
I imagine that most of our guests will get a HUGE kick out of it, and that it would start the reception off on a really fun, cute note. However, I wanted to come on the bee and get a public opinion on it. We also will not have more than a few elderly folks, who also have a wonderful sense of humor.
I’m on the fence. Is it as funny as I think it could be? Or, do you think some may just think we are making a mockery of our own wedding?
Thanks in advance, bees! : )

I know nothing about that TV show, but I really think Love and Marriage stands on its own as a cute marriage-related Sinatra tune. IMO Sinatra tunes are a 100% non-controversial wedding choice.
The only part of this scenario that seems like a “mockery” is choreographing a fake confused moment. If you like the song, please go with it! Enjoy it in a genuine way! Don’t temporarily pretend not to like it for some hipster cred or something! Just do it 🙂

@4cube: Ha! Yes, while I love a classic like Sinatra, you really would have to be familiar with the tv show. It’s a very popular program that a lot of us grew up with. It outlines the marriage between a couple and their home life, along with their two kids. And, while it absolutely hilarious, it can be a little inappropriate. So, anyone familiar with that song would correlate it to Married With Chidren before they would Frank Sinatra. So, it would definitely make some folks wonder if we didn’t play it up in a cute, cheeky sort of way.

We are thinking of doing something similar. My mom kept worrying that people wouldn’t know when to stand for the bride’s entrance, since most people if they know the bride is coming aren’t looking at the officiant. So we are considering doign a “Here Comes the Bride” fakeout, and then getting into the actual processional song.
