FI and I originally planned on having our wedding in Panama at the resort he proposed at. We were naive in thinking his grandmother could make the trip. (We asked her, multiple times, and she said yes. His parents said they’d get her where ever needed.) With this in mind I went dress shopping and bought my dress. Less than a week later his parents informed us that she couldn’t actually fly and that they thought we should have the wedding closer to home. It’s very important to FI that she be at our wedding, so we changed our plans. We’ve now booked a venue at a Ski resort in PA for August. It’s beautiful and we’re very happy with it 🙂
Unfortunately, I picked my dress thinking that I was getting married at a resort in the rainforest. I went with something *very* casual and now I don’t know if it fits our new location. I never thought I’d have dress regret and I can’t tell if it’s just because it’s such a big decision and there are *so* many choices or if it’s valid and I actually made the wrong choice.
This is my dress on the model:
To make everything worst, I’m pretty sure we WAY over paid for my dress. If I were to pick a new one I would feel so guilty knowing I wasted that money AND it was overpriced to begin with.
I basically have three choices:
1. Suck it up and keep my dress the way it is.
2. Alter my dress. The train is very long, I’d like to shorten it a bit, make the sweetheart neck line a little bit more of a sweet heart and add something to the dress to make the skirt fuller. Would these alterations make my dress closer to my dream dress?
3. Try on other dresses. I’m honestly terrified to do this because I think I’ll find something I like better and my doubts will completely take over.
So, I throw myself at the mercy of the bees! What should I do? Also, if anyone has any other suggestions for alterations I’d really appreciate it! I’m just really afraid it doesn’t look formal/bridal enough!

I think it is a beautiful dress and you look great in it! You looks always look at pictures and add something to the dress if you want! I bought a very casual dress for a good price and am adding a strap of beading and crystals to add something to it! I think if you love it, dont get rid of it just because you changed venues!! I think it would be great for your new venue!!

I would get a crinoline to wear under it- they’re cheap and it will giveyou the fullness you’re looking for. If you are worried about it being casual, I wouldn’t shorten the train.
I think the dress is fine for your new location. It won’t be a huge production to transport it, and it will be comfortable to wear in august. Try it with the crinoline and see what you think!

I think it’s a beautiful dress and it looks great on you! I don’t think it’s too casual for a ski resort at all. If you want to “glam” it up, get some nice accessories that you love and consider a fancy-ish updo. But I think it looks lovely, and you loving the dress and feeling comfortable in it is the most important thing!

What a beautiful dress. Yeah, try a peticoat underneith to make it fuller! The train is soo my favorite part!!! Imagine the photos you could get of it too!!!

I think it is beautiful and elegant! But you’ll rarely, if ever, hear me suggesting getting a new dress when the person has a beautiful one already.

I think your dress looks beautiful on you, but I did vote to modify it. I love the idea of adding something under it to make the skirt puffy. I think that will jazz it up to make it feel more formal. It’s a georgeous dress and looks great on you.

You could always jazz up your look with some jewlery to make you feel more formal. It is a beautiful dress!

I think a full crinoline would really change the look of the dress.

Thanks ladies 🙂
I do think I’ll add something to the skirt. I’m starting to calm down and feel better about it.

That dress is gorgeous – look how happy you are in it! That says to me you chose the right one!
If you want to make it more ski resort, how about a shrug? I’m thinking like what Kate Middleton wore to her reception, but more in a bolero style, since I’m thinking the resort will not be really cold in August.
Here is what Kate wore. Actually, her dress looks like how yours would with more fullness to the skirt.
