My dress store charged me an extra 300 for petite length, and I STILL had to get it hemmed after the dress came in.  Such a waist of money

I think it would be more the designer then the store itself.

There is a free of charge petite length which is just a few inches off the hem, and then I believe there’s a true petite size which is the one that costs extra. That’s what I read when I was buying my Maggie.

My store did not charge me anything to get the petite length and it saved me money in alterations!

@jackndiane:  The petite version does cost more ($50 I think)-at least that was what I was quoted although I didn’t pick a maggie dress. I was told it was because the petite version is a pattern change, meaning they don’t just lop 3 inches off the bottom, the dress is proportionately shorter.

I was not charged extra for the petite length.

I just ordered a Maggie Sottero last week, and was charged $150 for the petite version, which was 3 inches shorter than the sample I tried on. I am 5’3″ but will be wearing 4 inch heels (my fiance is 6’2″). I was worried it would be too short, but she assured me over and over it would not be. I have heard that it is normal for a charge to be added for the shorter length from several people I asked. Not nice, but necessary 🙁

On Maggie dresses you can get it 3″ shorter or 5″ shorter. I don’t think the designer charges for 3″, but they do for 5″. I used to work at a shop that carried Maggies and that’s what I was told by the owner.

I also was not charged more and also had to have more taken off the petite length.

Like a few others have said there are two “petite” lengths that Maggie dresses come in. 3 inches shorter is no charge, 5 inches shorter there is a fee (it depends on the dress.  So it would depend on which length you chose.

I am 5′-2″. Mine was around $150 to get it 5 inches shorter. That was less than the alterations women quoted me if they did it in store because the bottom of my dress is all lace. I am so glad I went with the 5 inches shorter. I tried my dress on when it came in and I just had to find 3 inches heels and its perfect now!

I didn’t get a Maggie dress, I got an Alfred Angelo dress. I had to pay an extra $50 for petite length, which was perfect for me – so no hemming! 🙂

That’s weird, pay more for less fabric? Do they alter the pattern too instead of just cutting off length?

I have no facts to offer here, but will comment that one store tried to charge me $150 extra for a “plus size” (18…I don’t think that’s that plus in bridal world, but whatev). When I got a quote from a different store, they said there was no up charge. It’s all a racket! But such pretty dresses…
