I just got married in NJ at the beginning of the month. For some reason, I assumed they would mail us our marriage certificate but it has yet to arrive and it’s been almost 20 days. I googled and the results I found (on other forums) said their certificates were waiting for them when they returned from their honeymoon.
I would really love to get mine ASAP so I can start the name change process as I’m a teacher and would like that all done by the fall.
I already called the vital statistics office in the town where we got married, but I have yet to hear any kind of response back/be able to get in touch with a human (of course).
Did you get yours mailed to you, or did you have to go pick it up?

Mine was mailed. and It took about 2 weeks. It was here by the time we got back from our honeymoon. Give it another week before you get worried.

Mine was also mailed and was in our mailbox when we returned from our honeymoon (4 weeks after marriage). We were told it takes about 3 weeks.

I had to go to the court to get certified copies.

We got ours as soon as we dropped off the signed license from our officiant. No waiting. Gave them the signed copy, and 10 minutes later, they handed us the certified copies to use for legal purposes.

My was mailed, after I went in and paid to have it sent.

It depends on your location. We had to order ours- they didn’t just send it automatically.

We had to pick up at the courthouse or order it online and have it mailed but it would take a few weeks. I highly doubt they are just going to send it to you.

We got married in Hawaii and they told us it would be a month before we got it in the mail – in only took 2 weeks. They told us we would only had to go online to order additional copies.

weatherbug: I went to go get mine. I got married in Cedar Grove. Even though it was an hour from my house it was easier. I don’t remember them saying they would mail it.

weatherbug: I was married in NY on Sept 14, 2013 – my officiant mailed out the signed license that we are now married on Sept 16 and I received my marriage certificate mid October 16 2013 – only reason I know exact date I received it was bc I posted a picture on Instagram that I am officially “Mrs P” Lol

I had to pay for mine, and it came less than a month after. (I’m in Canada though)

Thanks ladies! I ended up emailing our officiant and she let me know that I needed to go down to the office, which I will do on my lunch break tomorrow. I have no idea why, but I swore someone told me that I would get one in the mail!
