Do you know the stats of your ring (carat size, clarity, etc)? I’m just curious how many of you either already knew beforehand or asked for the specific stats on your engagement ring when you got it. This also relates to ettiquette-is it rude to ask?

I didn’t ask but he gave me the appraisal because I was the one to get it insured, the specs were on the appraisal. I’m not sure if I would have asked otherwise.

When he gave me the ring, I didn’t think to ask. I was so excited! We had looked at rings together, but I ultimately let him pick from some finalists. I commented that it looked larger than what we had seen previously, and he told me the size and that he got a bigger diamond than we had looked at. He also told me he picked one with some color, but beyond those two characteristics, I have no idea. It’s appraised, though, so I guess at some point I can find out more details.

I asked and he said “idk 1 carat.” He has NO idea. I only found out when i did the appraisal and i read out the details. lol

i was there when my husband purchased the rings, but i didn’t care about how many carats and all that stuff. i just showed them a picture of what i wanted and asked if they could get it for me. my rings were originally going to be over $5,000, but i told them there was no way i was letting my husband pay that much. i eventually got them down to just under $2700 (for my rings and my husband’s ring) but i have no idea what changes they made to make it cheaper.

We chose the stone together so I knew/chose the stats.

I didn’t ask, but he showed me the stats cause he was so proud of how well he did.

My husband showed me the appraisal on my upgrade stone because he wanted me to see how good a deal he received.

wouldn’t have found out if we hadnt purchased together. Stats don’t mean anything to me

after my Fiance proposed for the first couple days I was so surprised I kept asking “is it real?!”. After the about the 15th time I asked if it were real he started telling me the specs. Although, that wasn’t even what I was asking. I really just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a figment of my imagination! haha

spiffanee: I didn’t ask- he was so excited that he told me all about it and showed me the certificates. I think it would be rude to ask. It’s kind of lie you are judging his gift on the stats rather than the spirit in which it was given. That being said, if you really want to know, go to the jeweler and ask them to tell you about it.

I don’t really care about the stats, definitely not enough to ask.
There’s a folder that came with the ring that lists all the relevant info- I glanced through it but that’s about it. I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head what any of it said, lol.

When we went to get it insured I saw everything on the appraisal form.

I have the appraisal for the stone, but aside from knowing the size and that the jeweler was very impressed with the stone, I couldn’t tell you any other details offhand.
