Did anyone buy a ridiculously priced wedding dress? I see those lovely gowns on Say Yes To The Dress, and they are beautiful but so expensive! If you did, how much was it, and post a pic if you have one!

Haha @Kittyachi, I was going to say the same thing.  One person's "ridiculous" is another person's chump change.  Wink

I bought what to me was a ridiculously priced ($1600) wedding gown but it was so worth it. I planned on getting a used dress cause I thought absolutly no one would know unless i tell them. Then I was thinking about getting a dress from online ($200) at lightinabox.com but once I had gone to a bridal shop and found "the dress" I couldn't say no.

Nope.  While it's "one day" and it should be special and the bride should feel amazing, I think a dress that is uber costly is just redunkulous IMO.  While I could have paid more for my dress, I didn't and I'm so happy with my choice and whatever the bride chooses she should be happy and comfortable with the purchase.

nope - under 500. And to me, if you could buy a reasonably nice used car with the money, it's too much for a one day dress.

I briefly considered getting a 3200 Lazaro for about an hour and then came to my senses

Yup, to me mine was ridiculously priced at 2800, but on the low end of gowns on that show. Some of those (particularly a 12K Pnina I saw recently) put my dress to shame! I can't hate on that.

Mine was under $500 also!  I think it all depends on the entire budget too and if someone is having a $30,000 wedding then spending $3,000 or so would be typical maybe---depends on the girl.  Don't get me wrong, I love the dresses and there are some that make my dress look not as "bridal" but oh well.  My FI was also thrilled that I found the dress that fit me amazingly and I loved it and he was super happy I was so thrilled.  There is a dress in the current MS Weddings mag in an ad and my goodness it's gorgeous, but haha, not happening.  ;)

It's funny because I don't ever spend a lot of money on clothes but for my wedding dress - that's one thing that I wouldn't bat an eyelash spending a couple grand on. I find it amusing that I will only buy jeans at Target because they are like $15 but I'll spend thousands on a wedding dress. Whatever. It's the one really expensive garment I will ever buy. Some people spend $300 on their jeans and only wear designer clothes and shoes. I feel like over the years of wearing inexpensive stuff, I get to have one splurge. And my splurge was like $3500, not even a hardcore splurge. Some people (at least here in NYC) have everyday outfits that cost more than that.

My dress was about $800. I fell in love with it without looking at the price. I tried on a ton of dress and found out mine was actually the least expensive one. I <3 my Casablanca!

    Raising hand.... yep, I did.

I bought a Kenneth Pool - the Rosalind.  It was $6,700 after taxes and my alterations are $1,200... which brings the total of the dress to just about $8,000.  I bought my shoes on zappos.com for $70 and got my veil online for $90... but yeah, the dress was quite a bit.  I do love it though.

@spaganya- lol. That sounds like something that my mama would say.

My dress was $1,300 after tax and shipping. I think my parents were expecting to spend up to $2,500. So they were happy to buy my dress.

I second Mrs. Louboutin. I have a Judd Waddell ball gown. After taxes it was $5,500 - and I have no idea what alterations are going to run as my dress isn't expected in for another few weeks. I love my dress though....

Just the dress was under $1,000 but with the bolero and whatever alterations will be I think it will bump it over that.

I found my dress online and fell in love, but hated the $400 price tag (to me, that was ridiculous). So after I went in the store, tried it on & loved it more, I went home and sleuthed online for a few days.

I ultimately found the same dress in my size NWT on Craigslist for just $100 including shipping! So now I tell everyone - do NOT set your heart on anything before you search online for a gently worn (or NWT) same-style dress. You will save hundreds...or more!

I spent $4200 on a Lazaro that will be here in 8 months.  To be honest, I thought I would get away with spending $500, but couldn't find anything I loved.  Then I tried $1500, and still nothing jumped out at me.  I mean, it's only for one day and I'll wear it for 8 hours or so why spend a ton?  But then our Chicago wedding budget is $50,000.  Though, I really thought this was one area where I could save us a few bucks.  The good thing is that we aren't putting ourselves into debt for the wedding.  FI and I are older (37 and 29 respectfully) and we are established in our careers.  I would definitely NOT spend this much on a dress and the wedding day if I had to charge the whole thing.

But this Lazaro dress, I absolutely loved and it felt like ME.  I don't like lace or bling or pearls, so this was the perfect blend of a classic satin bodice and something different on the skirt portion (and that's just my style...J.Crew romantic ruffled tops are my favorite!).

Honestly, I don't think purchasing a $7,000 dress is "totally ridiculous" depending on your budget.  I just saw the new poll up top.  There are guidelines about what is normal to spend on what areas of your wedding and if a $7,000+ dress falls within that for your budget, that doesn't make it "totally ridiculous."

I didn't fill in the poll because I don't think I paid a ridiculous price however the poll thinks so Tongue out  I bought a Rivini gown. There was an additional 10% design change fee added b/c while its ordered to my hollow-to-hem measurement I also had them start the A-line flair an inch higher on my knee, oh the joys of being 5'.  I haven't had any alterations because my dress doesn't arrive until mid July...
