Did you buy anything for your wedding that you didn't use?

Hey Bees!  I think this question can go out to Brides-To-Be too but I was hoping some other newlyweds will post here and make me feel better about the $100 or so I spent on random stuff that I never used for my wedding (nor have I tried to return in an attempt to get my $ back).

I'll start.  I bought the below shoes (in champagne, not silver) at Burlington Coat Factory for $10 (yeah I know, cheap) but ended up getting another pair and I have yet to use these.  I see them everyday still in the box in my closet and feel really guilty.  I've passed the deadline to return them.  I'm hoping come spring/summer I'll have an opportunity to wear them.

I also spent $25 on a "dias de los muertos" cake topper and it sits un-touched in bubble wrap in my dresser drawer.  I then purchased another cake topper (Nightmare Before Christmas) off of ebay for $25.00 that I also changed my mind about.

During the 2008 Halloween season I bought all kinds of stuff I planned on using but I ended up going in another direction. All this stuff sits in storage boxes in my shed.

There's probably more but I just get mad at myself thinking about it.

Please tell me I'm not the only money-wasting wishy-washy one out there.

    Thanks ladies!!!

Oh yes. My first dress, to start :)

Also, TWO pairs of shoes that I ended up donating to the Salvation Army.

There were also a few crafty things here and there, but nothing majorly expensive.

The shoes and the dress, though ... well, I don't want to say how much money we threw away with those.

the wedding's in a month so i don't know everything... but so far i just have 2 different attempts at favor bags, only wasting about $12 total (the cookies that are going in them are super big so i needed bigger bags), but it still bugs me. oh, and my fi bought an extra long tie on accident and didn't realize it until after it was too late to return it, so he had to buy a new tie- $45. that one at least made me laugh.

Nice dress sandals by charles David - maybe i'll post in classifieds.. a hair flower, those sticky fake booby things, double sided tape, gosh i'm sure there is a lot more!

TONS!  I bought a necklace and earring set that was super cheap and once it was too late to return, I decided it looked cheap, too.  I have a couple of craft supplies and paper products that we either bought way too much of or never used at all.  And we ended up with a TON more booze than we needed, including a full case and a half of wine and two cases of beer.  (At least that we're getting some use out of!)

I'd be in the same boat with shoes if i hadn't ordered from zappos!

My first dress is def. one, but i'm about to sell it. Also, tons of stuff from the first wedding I planned... maybe about $200 worth of stuff?

yup! Lots. We were first going to do our own centerpieces, but things weren't quite working out the way we wanted so I bit the bullet and just paid the florist to make some. So we had a bunch of little pots and lace fabric that wasn't used. The other stuff wasn't really my fault though... we got champange flutes, but for whatever reason our venue didn't put any champagne in them and just prefilled a lot of regular champagne glasses so ours never ended up being used to our disappointment. I had bought a fun feather pen to use on the guest book thing, but that got left behind at my mom's house so we just had to use a regular pen. I bought a bunch of kid toys/activities to keep the kids entertained but nobody ever ended up setting any of it out (it was all shoved under a table at the venue for some reason). I bought pink and black fake rose petals, but the venue didn't put any of the black ones out while doing the setup (and a lot of the pink ones as well). I also ordered waaaaay too many candles so a lot of those weren't used either (though to be fair, I really wanted a lot out on the tables and such but they didn't use too many while setting up). I bought a waist cincher to go under my dress, but that didn't work out well so I got a bustier instead. Phew. So yeah, a lot of stuff I didn't end up using... I would have tried selling it, but the stuff is at my mom's house in Indiana and I'm in NYC so that complicated things.

I bought a pair of shoes and some jewelry and ended up using neither. Found a better pair of shoes and my parents gave me some nice jewelry for the big day.

We bought fortune cookies for our guests and almost nobody ate/took any! Wish I could have that $200 back!

Oh yeah, I totally overestimated the number of vases I would need. I bought 50 and only used 30.  I also bought a bunch of vase filler that didn't end up working, so it all went to waste.  Also, when I was doing a mock up for my centerpieces I bought a bunch of vases that I meant to take back to Michaels and never did.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I'm not married yet but I have purchased some things and changed my mind about them, then got something else.  Two different hair flowers, brooch, shoes...none of them are super expensive but all the little things add up!  It's so annoying for me to feel like I wasted some of my purchases!

I say just throw it on eBay, and try to recoup some of your losses!  It will feel better than the guilt of it sitting there in your house, mocking you.  :)

I have stuff that's never gotten returned to Michael's. I guess it's now store credit oly if they take it back at all.  I also bought an extra pair of shoes, that I didn't use they were only $60 but unfortunately came from Shoebuy which only lets you return for 60 days. At least they are dyeabe so I could have them dyed to match a cocktail dress.

I was pretty careful but I did buy a hair comb that I didn't end up wearing.

Also I had leftovers because I bought too much - left over ribbon, paper, river rock, etc.

    Not too bad...

    I had a few:

    • some plastic glasses that turned out to be too short,
    • some silver-look plastic forks that I didn't use because we found inexpensive stainless steel ones,
    • toasting glasses we didn't bother with,
    • photobooth favors we couldn't use, because we had a problem with the instant photo printer,
    • hair flower I never wore.

However, I was able to sell the glasses and forks for about what I bought them for.  The toasting glasses were from the Salvation Army to begin with.  I'm working on selling the photobooth favors.  And I'll probably wear the hair flower some other time. Thus, my mistakes were at least not terribly expensive ones.

If you find that you don't wear the shoes even in spring/summer, or have other items you want to get rid of, you could always try eBay.
