We use this method as well as birth control. I'm secretly hoping there are very few stories
Yes... My sons dad and I used that method all but like twice... I got pregnant about 2 1/2 years into the relationship.
Well not me, but I can tell you 4 of my friends 5 (yes 5!!!) kids were conceived that way. Not sure why she didnt learn her lesson. She wanted her tubes tied after 3, but never did.
Kids range from 16 to 1.5.
I know what you mean.
My husband and I have been on the pull out method (and nothing else) for over 7 years now and we have NEVER had a scare or accident. Either we have been extremely lucky or one of us have issues.
We are right now on 7 months of TTC so we shall see. It really scares me as well because I have always had nagging doubts about ability to conceive.
However, I have read on other baby boards girls who have been doing it for over 10 years and had no issues conceiving.
I was worried about fertility too because my husband and I didnt really care if we got pregnant. But after awhile I started wondering if our half baked contaception actually worked or we were infertile. First month we TTC we got pregnant.
When I was was young (and foolish) my ex-BF and I used this method for several years and it worked just fine....or to the point we were lucky. Looking back I also wondered about my fertility so good question. I have been using the pill for years now just to be safe.
According to Planned Parenthood about 15-24% of couples using the pull out method get pregnant (versus 2-9% on the pill/patch/shot or ring).
Do you have an aversion to the pill to prevent the higher risk?
I had doubts about my fertility too. I don't use this method, but I forgot to take my pill for days at a time very often. When DH and I started TTC I just threw the pills out mid-pack and we started trying. We got pregnant almost immediately.
The pull out method is actually a very viable method, the problem comes with OE- Operator Error. Essentially, many men don't have the control to pull out in time or it feels so good they don't want to until it's too late.
This is a good article to read
We were going very strong on the POM and then switched to condoms and got pregnant.
I've used this method for years and no baby... my son was concieved in a different accidental way lol.
@PitBulLover:I was going to say the same thing. The pull out method can be a good birth control method as long as the guy knows his body well enough to know when to pull out. I think that alot of these "oopsies" duing the pullout method, were because guys didn't pull out fast enough.
With that being said, FI and I use the pull-out method about 98% of the time. I haven't gotten pregnant yet (knock on wood). I do sometimes think that one of us might be infertile, which is a scary thought.
I have been using is for almost 2 1/2 years and no scares for me. That is the only method I use. The pill makes me have low libido and I don't like condoms. We are very controled and we have never had any moments that he actually got any ejaculate inside of me. Usually pull out 2-5 minutes before he ejaculates.
We use the POM in addition to BCP and no issues to date! I know what you mean about the worries thougth, I think we all have them until we actually conceive.. it's something that has no symptoms until you try and make a baby. I'm sure you're fine! As another bee posted, POM is actually a pretty credible method IF your man can control himself properly.
@coffeegal85: Yup we have used the pull out method for a long time now. I have been on and off of the pill for years and I hate it. I went back on recently and then within 6 wks went back off because I hate how I have no sex drive on it (tried many diff types) and also it makes me have terrible mood swings. We are back to the POM now but I would like to get an IUD soon.
We use the pull out method...just because we aren't trying but we wouldn't mind another one. Still no baby after 2 years.
But I did get pregnant while on the pill. I was so mad because the pill does horrible things to my body. I hate the thought of all the hormones that mess up my system and it didn't even prevent pregnancy for me.
Wow! Thanks for all of the responses!
@Treejewel19: No, I don't have an aversion to the pill. Actually, I was on the pill from age 20 until about 29 years old. J and I sometimes use condoms, but usually he does the POM seconds before...
It kind of concerns me because it took my mom 5 years to get pregnant with my brother (after dozens of tests, and doctors appointments they still couldn't figure out why they weren't pregnant yet). After the first one, getting pregnant with me and my younger brother was much easier for them.

My son was conceived using the pull out method. This baby was not a product of that, but a product of "it feels too good to pull out" and not trying but not preventing either.
When I was young and stupid, my boyfriend and I used it for 3 years and I wasn't on any other birth control and it worked fine, but he was also very comfortable with his body and knew the right time to pull out. Since having an IUD, we haven't used any type of pull out or condoms and haven't had any issues. I totally agree with @pitbulllover that a lot of the accidents are probably user-errors and lack of control on the guys part.
I got pregnant on the POM. I would never consider this a reliable form of birth control, personally. But to each her own!
We use the POM and it has been fairly successful. I say fairly because we did conceive using this method but only because of "operator error" on both our parts. In the last 3yrs since we've had our baby we haven't had any slip-ups.
we used it for about 3-4 years and never gotten pregnant while using that method but my hubby was pretty good about "timing". haha. were pregnant now. we were trying though! it took us 2 cycles to concieve so really dont think that something is wrong with your fertility bc you havent had an accident.
@PitBulLover: I am not sure I would want to trust someone else with my pregnancy. I get it can be viable, but if its EO, as much as you trust the operator, how do you really know they are doing it right everytime?
My friend, as an example, had no pregnancies on average for 4 years at a time. But she had 4 "oopsies" with the pull out method with 5 kids from the ages for 16 to 1.5 years.
I don't think many users are going to go to the trouble to register for new accounts or be totally open with their current accounts if they've had unwanted pregnancies that were terminated or put up for adoption.
Currently pregnant with a POM baby, due late September..
Yes, it was operator error (the first in YEARS, we even did POM while I was on hormonal birth control, that I was currently in between since the new pill I tried gave me massive head aches, had an appt later that month to get on something else, blah blah blah hindsight is 20-20) AND I took Plan B that morning, less than 6 hours later, and yet still, pregnant!
The details are fuzzy, but trying to come up with a reason for why the Plan B didn't work, I think I may have been taking the last dose of an antibiotic that day, not sure if those screw with Plan B like they do with BC, but that's the only thing I can think of. I had mixed feelings initially, but my husband's excitement helped me get on board. Now I just think that somebody was really trying to tell us that now was our time!
Sorry to scare you, but, you totally can get pregnant. I wish you all luck though!

Hello all,
I don't usually frequent this board... But I like to read the posts. I was just curious if anyone on here has ever concieved (accidently maybe? Or not trying but also not preventing?) using the 'pull out method'.
I'm wondering what the chances were, that's all. J and I use this method about 80% of the time, but I've never gotten pregnant (makes me wonder about my fertility or his sometimes...?).
Thanks!
Gwen
