My Fiance and I are putting each other's first names in our bands. I know some brides have also posted about using a sentimental quote or song lyric
We did not engrave ours. I like it when people do, however I would be stretching to find something to put in mine. I am just excited for him to wear a ring and have fun with it like I have fun wearing mine!
We were super predictable and did our initials and our wedding date.
Put Back On - May 22, 2009- I love You
I know that through our toughest moments...and I know there will be...we'll laugh! :)
We didn't engrave them. Wasn't a big deal for me and not for FI either.
My engagement ring is engraved inside, and we dont have our wedding rings yet.
We do intend on engraving our bands. Probably something meaningful to the both of us w/the date.
I plan to engrave my e-ring too at the same time!
@Waterwife I love that!
i will probably engrave "I my Paul" and the date. its somethign i said when i was really sleepy and "i love you" wasn't the right phrase. i just let him fill in the blank ;)
It would be nice, but I think my band at least will be a little too thin and we want them to match :)
My MOH had hers engraved, but they spelled her name wrong! It ended up being 'SAHAH' instead of 'SARAH', and they didn't catch it until it was too late! Luckily they have a good sense of humor and find it amusing.
I want to have FI's ring engraved, but I'm not sure what metal it is so don't know if I can. I want to have the date and possibly something else put in it, we'll see if there's room.
We engraved ours with our wedding date written in roman numerals. It looks like this:
II.IV.MMVIII
I haven't decided officially, but it may say: "I will follow you 3.13.10"
It's taken from an old Irish church ceremonial vow: "As the sun follows its course, may you follow me. As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart, may your presence be with me, oh one that I love, 'til death comes to part us asunder."
Also from the story of Ruth and Boaz in the Bible where she says, "Wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God."
It also comes from a line from a Death Cab for Cutie song: "If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then I'll follow you into the dark."
we engraved our bands with our nickname for each other (we both call each other the same thing)and our wedding date.
we're going this saturday! we're going to engrave our names on each other's ring, our wedding date, and maybe 'TE AMO'!
FI and i are trying to decide this now, too. lots of great suggestions!
Mine is too narrow to get engraved :(
However, my fiance wanted to use his grandfather's ring, that his dad also use to wear. So it has his grandparents, parents and our intials in it ![]()
The outside of our wedding bands has a four letter word that we each chose for the other translated into binary (that's the 1's and 0's language computers read) as we are getting married on 10/10/10. I chose kiss for his, and he chose evol (that's love backwards) for mine.
We kept it simple on the inside - we have an infinity symbol, our initials with a plus sign between them, and the wedding date.
@scB493- I LOVE that! My FI and I want our rings to become heirlooms like that! What a beautiful idea. :)
mine is too narrow to engrave- but I would have LOVED to engrave mine. I would have done something really simple like our initials and date, just to sort of engrave the history of the ring- in my mind this ring will be passed around for generations- in reality i'm sure its destiny is much different.
Anyone remember that scene in the Mandy Moore Movie when she gets her ring back from being engraved and it says
"NEVER TO FART"
instead of "never to part"
My engagement ring says "Marry Me 1.21.08."
My wedding bands both say "I Do 11.22.08."
I think we're not going to engrave ours. Some of my married friends said that it wouldn't be worth the money, because most guys end up losing their rings somehow! ;)
We engraved his but not mine. Both were passed down from previous generations (his grandfather...and it was engraved so we engraved our info along with it) and my mom. Mine doesn't have a solid underside for engraving, but I really wish it did!
I engraved his with I will always love you and the date 06.27.09. The twist is that it's written in Italian, which will mean a lot to him as he used to include love quotes in our first emails for me to figure out (We dated long distance). He's planning to engrave mine as well and they will be a surprise for both of us on our wedding day
I'm not sure if mine will be thick enough, we haven't picked it out yet but have a general idea. I think surprising the other with what is written inside is a wonderful thing! Make it a surprise :)
I want to put "One kiss" and the date on FI's ring because it's an inside joke between the two of us that all I wanted (when we first started dating and he asked what was one thing I wanted) was one kiss, and now we're getting married.
I can't think of anything significant that we say back and forth, or that is an inside joke. I love how some of you have that, it makes the ring so much more special because it emphasizes the bond that is shared only between you! ...not that a band without engraved messages doesn't... you know what I mean!
I'm probably going to end up being pretty plain vanilla and going with the date and initials...
Our jeweler engraved ours for us for free (so check into that). On mine, we could only fit RTD to MLK (our initials). On his, we fit MLK to RTD 9-1-2007 I was excited that we fit the date on his! Oh, and also, my husband has a tungsten ring which you can't size, but you can engrave! So just an FYI if you're worried about the type of metal.
His says "Forever your princess" and the date. My wedding band is a vintage ring from Doye and Doyle. It has a 1934 wedding date on it, I am hoping to add our wedding date to it too!
Good to know about engraving on tungsten! I think that's what his will be.
Our planned wedding date and (possibly): by the Mercy of God, Found; by the Grace of God, United
His is definitely being engraved "To have and to hold 7.3.09". Mine might be engraved "From this day forward" but we don't know if that will fit. If it doesn't, it will be our initials and wedding date on mine.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
Today, my FI and I were looking at our wedding bands, and the sales lady reminded us we get to engrave our bands.
If you engraved yours, what did you write on there? Did you write anything other than the date and your initials?
