I didn't lose weight before the wedding, but I definitely gained some after. I worked to avoid the 'freshman 15' but wasn't as successful avoiding the married 15. It's so annoying to hear comments about how you gain weight when you get married...I didn't want to believe it. I mean, how does being married cause weight gain? ...I attribute it to my desk job.
So a few weeks ago I bit the bullet, joined a gym and some days actually look forward to working out after working in the office all day. On the days I don't want to go I tell myself how much better I feel afterwards and that's usually enough motivation.
I gained after we got married. I hate it b/c I used to joke with my hubby that I would just get fat after we were married b/c I could. And then I did. I have a good reason, I was pregnant so I gained, and then miscarried so I'm still stuck with the weight. I am eating healthier and very very slowly losing it though.
I only wanted to lose about five pounds before the wedding and tone up, which I did.
However, after the wedding, I totally let myself go. I recently went to try on my wedding dress, and it wouldn't even zip up, yikes! So I started to eat right again and work out regularly, and the weight came off.
When I say, "let myself go" I mean, pizza delivery once a week, ice cream whenever I wanted and carb overload this past winter due to SAD. I was so bad. Probably the worst I've ever been. I was just SO exhausted after the wedding, and I'm not one for working out, either, so combine that with no wedding obligations, and no white dress to look awesome in, I did whatever I wanted.
I felt so crappy once it hit me, and I probably won't get like that ever again.
I gained almost 20 lbs! I have lost 10 of them so far. Which brings to mind that old joke - "What's the difference between a girlfriend and a wife? Answer - about 45 lbs."
OUCH!
I gained about five pounds on our honeymoon. It was hard not to overeat at an all-inclusive.
I lost about 7 or 8 lbs before the wedding. Then, we got home for our honeymoon and all of our good eating habits and working out that we did before the wedding fell to the wayside. I gained every bit of it back plus a few. Where we were once so dedicated, we aren't any more. I have zero motivation to go to the gym after work now.
But, I'm going to see a nutritionist today to start getting back on track!
I lost about 10lbs before the wedding and ive gained about 8lbs and im not gonna lie...I feel like CRAP! i am determined to lose it by thanksgiving!
Yes and no. Technically, yes I gained weight since the wedding. But I am back to the weight I had maintained until 3 weeks before the wedding at which point I lost about 5 lbs from stress and forgetting to eat. So I'm actually back to where I was and hoping to maintain that.
Uh, yes. It's only like 10 pounds but it feels like 50. Clothes feel so differently; some I refuse to wear even though I wore them when I weighed more than I do now.
Bad thing is while I lost weight in the year before the wedding and wasn't an emotional eater, house hunting has done me in.
I'm definitely back to my original weight, everything I lost for the wedding is gone. But I got on a fitness kick and the weight refused to come off. I feel stronger and happier, but I don't know if I can keep it up. Maybe I'm just meant to weigh more. It's depressing that I know I weigh 30 pounds more than my mother did at my age, but she was TOO skinny and I'm just two pounds above a healthy weight according to weight watchers.
I'm in the process of putting some weight back on! Before the wedding, I was working out two hours a day. No time for that now--I'm lucky to get in my 20 minute 30 Day Shred twice a week. Plus I munch on snacks when I'm sitting and working.
I'm trying to get in a better routine, but it's tough.
All of the sudden my appetite increased like crazy after the wedding. Now I am craving chips, ice cream, ramen noodle every other minute. I nearly did not want these during the engagement.
I literally is trying to fight of the urge of wanting chips the entire afternoon at work, and I am beating myself to go to gym tonight for the first time after wedding.
something's wrong w/ me~~
YES. I haven't weighed myself but I'm pretty sure I've gained back close to the 20 pounds I lost before the wedding. None of my clothes fit. But to be brutally honest, I love not watching what I eat!!
I gained back some weight after the wedding, but I think I have lost it again (it was probably just a few pounds). I try to avoid the scale so I'm not exactly sure! I stopped working out for about a month all together, before & after the wedding, but I am back on track now. I am trying to take exercise seriously and make a real lifestyle change, because I have the tendency to be a real couch potato and also I hate watching what I eat so I need to exercise to balance it all out.
i lost a bit of weight (about 10lbs) before the wedding, working out about 3-5 times a week depending on the work week, and then came the all inclusive honeymoon. i gained about 5-6 pounds, and at this point i dont care too much about it, but i would like to get back into my workout routine, but work is a bit hectic now. so im shooting for Oct 1st as my "get back on the wagon" day.
Ah, yep...here's my timeline
Sept 30, 2009: Proposed to, my wt was ~200lb.s
Oct 1, 2009: start going to the gym for 2hours a day, 5 days a week. Also, eating "well" on weekdays, while leaving weekends to eat whatever I wanted (I think this is why I was able to stay on the wagon).
March 2010: 43lb.s lost, (158). In car accident and unable to work out for two months.
August 27th, 2010 (day before wedding) 157lb.s
Wedding day, August 28th, 2010: 159lb.s
One week honeymoon: gained 7lb.s!
Now, 3 weeks out, I've probably gained back 10lb.s total. My clothes are tighter, and I feel like crap. I had promised myself 2 months off from the gym to enjoy the fall weather, and ride my wedding-neglected-horses (it's hard to ride after work each night when you're getting up at 3:30am for the gym) but I feel so crappy that it's hard to make myself find motivation to do anything. My only hope is that I know I need to get my horses in shape for a cattle round-up in Wyoming next month!
If you find any motivation tips, let me know! I don't want to get back to where I was pre wedding!
I lost about 10lbs for the wedding and I am pretty damn positive I have gained it back but we moved across the country and threw out our scale so I cant say for sure. I dont really mind if I did though, I am proud of myself for losing it for the wedding and I know if I needed to I could do it again.
I lost about 15 pounds prior to the wedding and managed to gain 4 back during our all-inclusive honeymoon. However, now that I'm doing more than lounging by a pool and have gone back to my "I will refrain from eating everything in sight" diet, I suspect some of it will come back off.
Yep! Not a lot but just enough for me to feel upset with myself. I was never super slim but I always kept half an eye on my weight. I toned up just before the wedding and that's all gone too. So I'm starting to do lots of activities around the house and making sure that I keep active during the day instead of just vegging out with DH on the sofa.
I've gained about 4 consistent lbs since the wedding - which is pissing me off. I'm definitely running more (further, faster and more consistenly) and truly feel I'm eating the same as always (I even take photos of everything I eat so I have an accurate record!)....but the number keeps going up! I did just come off the pill, and I'e heard some people gain and some lose. I didn't gaining going ON, so I must be one of those that gains going OFF. Boo!!
Between an all inclusive honeymoon with amazing food, traveling for about 6 weeks for work this summer, and spending more time hanging out with friends I gained about 10 lbs since our May wedding. For the past month I've been tracking what I eat (livestrong myplate) and started exercising again (I even got the man to start running with me!) and I've lost about 5 of that. It's been such a struggle though. When I'm not traveling I just want to hang out at home. I'm determined to lose a few more pounds to avoid the yearly creep. Good luck to everyone who's starting to work out/ eat right again!
I didn't try to lose weight before the wedding, so just in general, I've gained weight since the wedding. I was visiting my parents this weekend and hopped on their scale and was downright shocked.
It's a number I've never seen before, ever, so I'm definitely motivated. Trying to start the gym thing again tonight. Ugh.
so I am not the only bad newlywed that gain weight right away.. I went (dragged) to gym twice this week .. and I was sitting in front of hub changing my shirt at home... u know how belly pop out more when you sit.. he said.. u need to do something to ur midsection.. :(
sigh I know..
I know what keeps me motivated though.. read Shape magazine.. it just keeps the message in my head that I have to watch out what i eat and hit the gym...
@Popples:Are you sure your not gaining muscle mass? It sounds like you're keeping yourself fit and healthy but if the number keeps going up don't forget that muscles weigh more than fat! Also, adorable name. My popple is in the attic in a box somewhere :) I loved it.
I was so strict before the wedding that I've been eating everything in sight since! It's been about 6 weeks so it's time to be good again. The funny thing is I haven't gained much because we're TTC so I'm not really drinking. It's balanced out the desserts!
all inclusive honeymoon for 10 days led to a 4 pound weight gain 2 weeks post wedding! I was down about 5 lbs. pre-wedding though so it'S kind of like being back to normal but not a normal I like.
I was losing a lot before, not in a bad way, I needed to. I lost from trying, and then lost because of surgery & radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer. After the wedding, I think I've gained about 20 pounds! I definitely started trying to lose the weight again!
I didn't necessarily lose any weight before the wedding (I've always gone to the gym and whatnot) but during the wedding week and then during our honeymoon/month off from the gym from traveling/moving/other vacations I gained a little over 10 pounds. Awful. I started going to the gym, but didn't have a job yet, so most of the day I would sit around and eat.
I'm now back down to my pre-wedding weight though. I think having a job that requires me running around on my feet for 9 hours a day helped get my weight back down!
It's so bad! I was 126 pounds when I got engaged, 115 by the time I got married, and two months after the wedding I am at 132! What happened to me LOL
I think because I'm not under a massive amount of stress my heart rate isn't going a mile a minute. I don't really eat junk food however things like making apple crisp and taking it for breakfast instead of my yogurt or making muffins for hubby to take to work and eating them instead have definetly contributed.
The part that drives me crazy is that I walk about 5 miles, 4-5 times a week. Its really hard to get to the gym because DH works from 7am-10pm and we have two dogs, so I walk with them and am still gaining weight. What would happen if I laid on the couch instead?!
i didnt really lose weight for the wedding. if anything i gained weight in the year prior with living with DH...
i went for my yearly exam yesterday... weighed in at 130, not that it's a lot -- but i haven't weighed passed that since senior year of college... btween work and school i have NO time exercise. nor do i want to on the wknds... :'( but i am trying to eat meals at regular times, not eating late at night.. and trying to cut out my afternoon snacking!
Yup! but considering I only lost about 7 lbs I guess it's not that bad...I just have no motivation for excercise, esp. now that summer clothes/bathing suit season is basically over. :(
YES - I havent weighed myself but I can just tell by how my body feels. Its okay though because I got too skinny before the wedding because of stress so I feel more normal now!
It's been ~40 days since my wedding, and we've eaten out at restaurants more times than I care to count... before the wedding we were saving money, so we ate at home, and I was much better about my routine... but then also there is the stress weightloss before the wedding. I had gotten down to 129 (from a previous high of 160), and am now up at 139. 10 lbs in 40 days. I dont like that!!!

I lose 20lbs during the early engagement, I kept logs of the food I ate and make it to the gym on scheduled dates. I am far from slim, but -20lbs make me feel good about my body Just before the wedding I was too busy to make it to the gym, and I stopped tracking myself strictly because of all the stress. It's also because of stress I didn't gain back much before the wedding.
Wedding has come and gone, I let myself to occationally eat the fastfood during lunch and let chips snack get back on my menu.. boom! I gain back a lot of weight. I don't dare of going up the scale.. and I am dreading to go to the gym still, I just wanan go home to hang around w/ my hubby.
anybody in the same boat? =(
I really want to hit back to the gym, just need to start the routine again... sigh
