Apparently I can't make a decision without weddingbee, because I'm asking about stamps. I wasn't sure if most people just went with whatever..or if you picked out something cute and/or relevant to weddings. Thanks!
I wanted the new ones with the purple flowers, but the post office was all out. So we got the king and queen stamps, plus the wedding cake. They gave us the wedding banns for the response envelopes.
I used the king and queen love stamps. They also have the rings and wedding cake stamps.
Mine have flowers and I picked a series that's out in Canada right now with mills on them for our RSVPs. I thought it was cute since we're getting married at a mill, but I'm not counting on anyone other than FI and I to make the corelation ;)
Ours needed (2) 44 cent stamps. I got the king and queen and love them on our kraft paper envelopes
My MIL purchased stamps w/ our photo on them...a bit too much, I would have been okay w/ anything; however, we love them and very much appreciated.
I still have a while before my wedding, but I'm planning on using the fish stamps "Kelp Forrest" (44c) or the "Dolphin" (64c) if they are still available and depending on how much the invites cost to send. (I'll as least be able to use "Kelp Forrest" for STDs.) I'm having a beach destination wedding so I think it's fitting.
If those are not available, I may use the "Adopt a pet" (44c) ones if they are still out. They aren't "wedding-y", but my fiance and I are both animal lovers so it fits "us".
Post Office suppices are limited. You can order the full variety of stamp options at www.usps.com. I am planning on using custom stamps.
I'm going to upload an image and have stamps made. The image will most likely be something vague that has our colors in it.
Mine were normal postage and I got the King and Queen stamps.
I saw this blog post recently and I love it! She got them on eBay. Aren't these the loveliest invites ever?

I love that picture!!! What an awesome idea! Thank you for sharing!
Ahh I love those! I can't stand it! Why does she have so many stamps on them?
Nope we did Forever stamps. We figured with a name like that they were pretty wedding appropriate.
Meh - stamps aren't a priority for me. I have the purple flower ones for the RSVP's and depending on how much the invites weigh I'll figure out what stamp is going on them.
IMHO (and I'm not trying to knock anyone, I'm very much "to each their own") stamps are something that practically no one else is going to notice or care about.
I hope to!! I'll get to find out next week since that is when I plan on mailing them out. I just need to get them all assembled :/
I got custom stamps from PictureItPostage with our photo in Cabo (our wedding destination) in 2 versions for invite and rsvp envelopes. They were a really great size and were the cheapest I found (versus Snapfish, Zazzle, etc).
Plus, if I didn't do a custom .88c stamp, I would have had to do two stamps on my main envelope, which I think looks a bit messy (personal opinion only).
Oddly, they were a HUGE hit with our guests! lol

I did semi-custom stamps. I just ordered them yesterday :)

Where it says Bride & Groom, it says our names and where it says Thank You it has September 18, 2010
i don't care a ton about stamps so when I went to the post office today, I was willing to use whatever they had.
The selection was: wedding bands, abstract art, or The Simpsons!
My outer envelopes are orange, inner are yellow and colors are bright blue and orange. I just couldn't pass up the super bright Simpsons stamps! It was the perfect fun touch : )
Honestly, I didn't really care about the stamps... we just got the wedding bands one because they were available. Whatever got the invites to their destination was good enough for me! :)
Since our postage was $1.22 I asked the lady at USPS to print out a stamp for each envelope, and she did! (But then she put them on all crooked and haphazard. Oh well.)
I think FI and I had been engaged for maybe a week when I discovered the custom stamps you can get from Zazzle.com, and I've been sold ever since. I always knew we were going to do custom stamps. For a while I thought we'd get a photo of the two of us, primarily to titillate my grandmother, but we ended up deciding a simple dahlia bloom color-coordinated to the invitations was the best way to go. Excellent use of money in my opinion. (Easy for us to say; we only sent out 54 invites; though we did do custom postage for the RSVP envelopes as well.)
We did the King and Queen stamps too...we are doing a Las Vegas destination wedding, so there really wasn't anything more perfect. :)
Disclaimer: I know no one really cares about the postage when they get something in the mail, so it just so happens that the king and queen one worked, otherwise I would have used to lame old bell ones for all I cared. :)
i really wanted a collage of vintage stamps like Chillmer shared above. i love the idea of a custom designed stamp from zazzle, too. i just can't fit it into the budget, so it's not happening. i'm working on my save the dates, and luckily i can use the new monarch butterfly stamp, which looks awesome on my square kraft envelopes! :)
@sarahsd: OMG I love that!! How perfect!
Ours cost 81 cents to send so we ate the extra cost and put a king and queen on each. They were perfect for us cause our colors our orange/pink and the addresses were written in orange so the stamps matched perfectly! But, I agree with the above poster that pointed out that other people probably don't even notice the stamps...and I made mine were lined up perfectly!
We used the wedding band stamps on our STDs and RSVP envelopes and we used the wedding cake stamps (2oz postage - 66 cent stamps I think) on the wedding invite suite.
I agree with alligatress that having multiple stamps on an envelope just looks messy to me (especially when they aren't the same stamp). We had to put two cake stamps on one of the invites as it was going to Canada and needed a few extra cents postage. We insisted on having a matching cake stamp even though it was more postage than was actually required.
i thought about it and looked for pretty stamps, but i just couldn't see spending extra money on stamps so i went with boring ones. a friend of mine had custom stamps and i never even got to see them b/c i never look at the envelopes, so i assumed it would be the same for ours.
We had purple invitations so we used the purple flower "Love" stamps for those, but we just used postcard stamps (polar bears) for our RSVP's, since they were postcards!
I haven't decided yet. I figure that at the very least, I'll use the wedding bands though. It's a nice touch.
We used the wedding cake stamps (.66 cents) on the outside and the wedding rings on the inner envelopes. I loved them!
I knew about Zazzle and others but had no idea about the USPS having the rings or cake stamp. THANKS HIVE. I'll gladly save the money and use those for our accouncements rather than doing custom.
I used these:
The ones I mailed oversees were just regular 1.00 stamps, nothing special.
NGolden1 - Good question above... The reason there are so many stamps is because they're vintage, so it takes several of those lower denomination stamps to add up to the correct amount. We did them for ours, because I really wanted to have a vintage, old-school leaning wedding, so I thought it was a good way to add some personality. Here are some of the stamps we grouped together, there are way too many on this envelope, they only needed to add up to .61 for us, but you get the idea..
If you start early, you can get enough off ebay at about the same price that you would pay for regular stamps and if you aren't inviting a million people, it won't be too much trouble. We're mailing out 170 invites, so somewhere around 155, I was very much tired of putting together groups, but I think they turned out well. I'll post pictures of our full invites this weekend.
I mostly used the king and queen love stamps (our only needed one stamp), but threw in a few cowboy, kelp forest (a few of these are cute but some are ugly), simpsons, and adopt a pet stamps when they seemed fitting for some people, especially on the rsvps, so we would get a variety in our mailbox.
We used the wedding band stamps on our STDs, and the King and Queen of Hearts stamps (LOVE these!) on our RSVPs!
I had originally wanted to use vintage stamps for the invites, but I never got around to ordering them, and need to get my invites out (and since they cost just over $2 to mail), we used these art deco $1 stamps, and the Navajo Squash Blossom necklace stamp. Our invitation border is art deco style, so I actually think the art deco stamps look really great with them!
Here's what they look like:
When I took our invitation to the post office to get weighed the guy who worked there told us since they were a custom amount, just to go to stamps.com and upload any image we wanted. I have received so many compliments on our stamps and everyone keeps asking us how much they were. An 81 cent stamp is 81 cents and a 44 cent stamp is 44cents, no extra.
We put the picture of FI and I only the RSVP envelope and put the picture of my babies on the outside (we put a heart around the dogs pictures that said love)
Although, I am sure people would not find these stamps "cute", my FI is a HUGE (understatement) fan of The Simpsons, and I want to incorporate him into the wedding..so these are our wedding invite and RSVP stamps...
Well geez, this is one of the problems of a long engagement, too much time to look at and think about stuff! Now I've been buying vintage stamps on eBay because I LOVE those vintage stamp invites!
FYI for people whose post offices are out of their first choice - you can order stamps online at the USPS website, shipping is only $1.
I was going to have hot pink and damask ones made through zazzle, but I decided to go with the regular forever postage because it was going to cost $100 more to use the zazzle ones.
