Wow. Just managed to get a kick in the pants reality check after receiving quotes for my wedding decor, flowers, etc!

Anyone else feel their jaw hit the floor when they read their quotes?

I did realize that they'd be expensive, of course, but actually seeing my name on the proposal with the actual numbers just made me hyperventilate. I'm hoping to use the quote as an inspiration for setting my DIY budget...I'm going to dissect the list of quotes, see what I must have the planners do for me, and then see what I can DIY...and if I can get the price under what they quoted, I'll be a winner! I hope...

Most of my quotes (with the exception of the photographers) were not as bad as I thought. But I researched a lot before I even started getting quotes so I had a ballpark idea of what everything would cost.

Ugh, just the ballpark figure for the wedding total was enough to seriously wake me up in the middle of the night...brutal!

Before we even asked our vendors for quotes, we told them our budget and what we wanted, and asked if they could work with that. If they said no, we didn't bother them again. Most of them fit in our budget, and we probably fall into the "average wedding cost" group.

The only thing we didn't put a set spending limit on was photography. I wouldn't say I was surprised at how much it cost to hire our dream photographer, but I thought it would be slightly less than it was. No matter, though. We both agreed we'd pay whatever for our photographer, and cut back on everything else and make it work :)

Yep, pretty much everywhere we've looked so far for venues has been way out of our price range. Even when it seemed like the venue seemed reasonable, there were ridiculous fees tacked onto catering and things like off-duty police officers for security. Is it so wrong to want a nice venue that's not banquet-hall-esque and also not $2500? It's enough to make me want to elope!

only 1 quote really made me gasp. we had out wedding in a tent and we going to rent lounge furniture and have the ceiling drapped with fabric. $17,000. WTF? To rent 3 couches, 6 ottomans, and drap 300 yards of fabric. I couldve BOUGHT white furniture from IKEA for like 1/5 of that...bastards.

I did some research beforehand, but there were definitely stress out moments when I saw the bottom line.  Everything was about 10-15% more expensive than we were hoping!

Yeah, I had done my research beforehand so I was ready to see the numbers myself...but I was secretly hoping that perhaps I would be surprised....cough cough cough!
