I’m debating whether I should go out and grab something small tonight for my two bosses. Mind you, I’m not a big fan of them and they suck at their jobs, but they did get me something.
I brought in cookies for our department (there are around 12 of us) as my “gift” to everyone. But I’m not sure if I should get something a little extra for the bosses.

My department is rather small – only 3 people! We decided to each chip in 10 dollars and get our boss a gift cerifitcate to a restaurant him and his wife like.

I’ve never gotten a present for my bosses before, but they’ve also never given me anything. If you feel obligated, I’d try to get something of equal value to what they gave you.

My team of 4 chipped in and got my boss a gift. She gave each one of us a gift. I probably wouldn’t have gifted my boss individually, but it seems to be tradition within the department, so I go along with it.
I personally think the cookies are good enough.
I thought ettiquette-wise we aren’t supposed to gift bosses, as it can seem like sucking up.

Nope why should I get someone something when they treat me like crap here

Normally (in past years) I gifted my bosses something. This year both my immediate and overall bosses have changed and I’m not exactly thrilled with them. So I just gave them sweet holiday cards. We say it’s the thought that counts so I went with that. (It’s also way cheaper than a gift they wouldn’t like and wouldn’t thank me for anyway.)

No, it wouldn’t even cross my mind. I think they can get you something, because you work for them. You don’t get them anything, because they’re your superiors, and you already do a lot for them.

We all go in on something for our 2 bosses. The total came to a contribution of $19 from each employee. Not nearly as generous as the gift + bonus they gave us (but they’re also making some pretty good money off of us…)

@pokie45: We did a secret santa at our annual xmas potluck where we all got one gift (if we participated), but my coworker and I also got a gift for our boss.
He’s a really good boss and we get him something every year (usually one of his fav. team’s merchandise). He then usually takes us out for an appreciation lunch. Our office is made up of a bunch of directors and employees (and one exec director). Not sure what the other teams do, but it seems to work for our 3-member team.

At my old firm I did, we had a good relationship and I wanted to. With this firm I do not, we do secret Santa and I actually got my boss’ name, so this year yes.

A few of us at work pitched in for a gift card to a restaurant we know our boss likes. I’m so glad the holidays are almost over! Between food I’ve had to buy/make for the lunch parties (we’ve had at least 5 since Halloween), the company wide white elephant thing we had last week, and a separate front office xmas party I’m spent! The new year will be a break for my wallet and my waist! LOL

Last year my boss gave me a $50 GC to buy books since I’m such a bookworm.
So this year and got him an iPhone 5 car charger since he just got the phone, and in return, got me 2 much needed kitchen appliances for our new condo.
Small office, I’m now the only employee.

Considering that my lab consists of my boss (PI), me, and my undergrad I didn’t get him anything. I talk to my boss maybe twice a week and haven’t seen my undergrad in three weeks. I’ve been completely alone for the last 3 days. There’s not much holiday spirit going on.
