I was just curious if any of you have grown out your hair quickly from a short (or horrible!) haircut. If so, how did you do it? What length did you start with, and what length are you at now? How long did it take to get it (back) to the length you wanted?
Sorry for all the questions, just wondering!

@GwenvonD: I got a horrible haircut 10 months before my wedding. I had not asked for more than an inch to be cut off and then it was cut to my chin. I started with chin length and by the time of my wedding it had grown past my shoulders. I drank a lot of water, tried to eat healthy and took prenatal vitamins.

I’ve always heard that your hair grows about 1/2 in per month. I’ve tried taking prenatal vitamins and the hair, skin, and nail vitatmins. I don’t think either made my hair grow any faster.
When I got engaged in august my hair was right above my shoulders
I haven’t gotten a haircut (even a trim) since then so 7 months later it is just past my shoulders. I would say it’s grown about 4 inches.

My hair wasn’t short when I started growing it out–it was shoulder length but it just wouldn’t get past my shoulders. Now it’s almost mid-way down my back. It took me two years to get that length since I’ve still been trimming it. Basically, I get four inches cut off per year (mostly to get rid of damaged ends since I color my hair).
Oh and the key to growth for me has been two things–whey protein and amazing grass (you can get it at whole foods). It’s sounds kinda gross but makes hair grow so fast!

I have been growing mine out for YEARS. I was in hair school when I was 20 and decided it would be a really cool idea to cut my hip length hair into a mohawk. It went well with the hoop ring I had in my nose and purple color I was rocking. …Le sigh…Oh, to be young…
Now, I’m a decade older and the only haircut I have had since is a trim once in a blue moon. My hair is about an inch away from hitting my butt. YAY!!! I only wash it 3 times a week (Sounds gross to some- but my hair doesn’t get super greasy). The days I don’t wash it- I rock a funky boho up-do with lots of braids or twists. I try to only use shampoo that won’t strip the natural oils, but once a week I will do a deep cleanse. I have a horrible addiction to coloring my hair (although, to be fair- it’s stayed mostly in the blonde area for the past decade so it’s just been touch ups- when I was younger it was red one week, then blue, purple, green, black, etc…you get the picture). I made a commitment to myself to not put a sigle drop of color in my hair for an entire year. Three weeks before my wedding will be exactly a year and my hair is thanking me for it! It is so much thicker and super shiny and luxurious. Yeah <— I said LUXURIOUS. 🙂

This is my hair last April
ETA: I didn’t really do anything special. I did try to maintain it from breakage but using a good serum before blowdrying and also I would try to not even comb it on days that I didn’t wash it. Instead I’d throw it up into a messy bun or ponytail

I am thinking of doing the same thing! Mine is in a bob at the moment, and I would like it longer than shoulder length.
What I would say is what PP have been saying, but it also depends on you. Some people’s hair doesn’t grow as quickly as others.
What I do is try to eat healthily, not blow dry it too much, go for regular cuts (every 6 weeks or so) just to tidy it up and have one day a week when I don’t do any sort of heat styling on my hair at all.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
