I grew my hair long just because I felt like it, not for the wedding. but I was super conservative with the cut and style. so for a year I went around with long boring hair that just hung straight down.
after the wedding, I was super excited to get a fashionable haircut. not shorter, just more interesting. lots of texture so my semi-wavy hair has some body. big mistake. my hairdresser effed up and now it looks like a mullet with the longest part in the back being very thin and scraggly. my only choices are:
1. lop off the scraggly part in the middle, which will make it about shoulder length.
2. or keep it long and wear it in a ponytail every day for about a year or so! (note: I like ponytails and this cut does look good that way. but ponytails ever day?)
boo, I’m so annoyed. I wish I could go in a time machine and undo this!

I would get it cut to look normal when your hair is down. Shoulder length isn’t that short, so you can still wear it in a pony tail, but if you do choose to wear it down you won’t feel ashamed of the cut.

Ah yes. The oops haircut. I used to have really long hair and had the “what have I done???” moment too, so I feel your pain. My vote? You could do a little from Column A and a little from Column B and wear it up in a ponytail until you’re sick of it, or you could go with option 3: go to another stylist and see if they can do anything with it (making sure they leave enough for a ponytail, just in case).
I grew mine out for the wedding and chopped it off after, but I really wish I hadn’t. Grown it out in the first place, that is. If I’d really given it a lot of realistic thought, I would have realized that I look really good with short hair and acted accordingly.

@adnama: it’s probably what I will end up doing. but I’m procrastinating because I don’t have any trusted hairdressers. the person who ruined my hair got like, a million 5 star reviews on yelp. if I can’t trust user reviews, then what can I trust?!

@MissHelen: I know what you mean. my entire life I usually had some kind of bob. for the wedding, the most ideal hairstyle would have been something like what Betty Draper has. but that would have meant lopping off my long hair.
oh well, I’m glad that at least I liked my wedding hair!
