We’re not having a wedding cake (at least I’m pretty sure we’re not). We’re only having the plated desert our caterer provides because it’s AMAZING. We’re doing 2, they’re alternating, they look incredible. Neither of us want to pay for cake. I’m wondering if I will regret not having a cake or at least something to cut for the pictures…thoughts?

@MsGinkgo: We’re having cupcakes and the bakery is making us a little tiny cake to cut, so that we can do the traditional cake cutting. It was $30. Maybe you could do something like that?

@MsGinkgo: I think that you should do whatever you want and it will be great. However, we skipped a lot of traditions except the cake cutting. That was one tradition we really wanted to keep and we loved it. I loved seeing the pretty wedding cake with our cake toppers that we put a lot of thought into and then cutting it together and feeding it too each other. It was so fun and cute.

I went to a wedding once with a pizza cutting- they had midnight pizza. Do you like pizza?
I went to another wedding that had cheesecake instead of cake (it was amazing) and bride’s mom made a simple two layer cake for B&G to cut.

You could bake and ice your own small cake? THen cut it and feed it to each other?

@MsGinkgo: We had pie, but the caterer cut it, because pie is messy! So no cutting, didn’t care and I don’t regret it! The pie was delicious, my only regret is that I only got one slice.

I’m not a big cake person, but we still had a little 2 tier cake to cut for pictures. My sweetie cut his finger with the knife.lol
We served different cake to our guests for dessert.

I had a cake at the wedding because it was included in the wedding package.
We did not have a formal cake cutting……
I thought that a cake cutting would just be one more interruption that would break up the flow of the party atmosphere we were trying to create

@MsGinkgo: Cake cutting is a tradition I always look forward to witnessing at a wedding. FH and I are doing a small cake for us to cut with sheet cake in back.

You can cut ANYTHING. Just cut whatever dessert is on the plate! It’ll still be fun and photo-worthy, and it’s cute thing for the guests to get to see.

We’re having a cake but we’re not doing a cutting. I don’t want to be on display cutting cake and feeding it to my new husband. I want a waiter to come to my table and put cake in front of me. 🙂

We didn’t have a cutting. In fact the waiter cut the cake in the kitchen and presented it on fancy plates with sorbet. I would have liked to cut the cake, but it really is no big deal now that I think of it!
