I asked this a few months ago when I was deciding and it was a “yes”.

So I booked a second one.   It cost an additional $400 but I think it will be totally worth it.

I did, and I think it is worth the cost if it won’t mean getting less of your primary photog of choice. I.e. I would not go with a cheaper photog or less hours JUST so you can have a second. But if you can get what you want AND a second I think it is great for two reasons:

1) Two sets of eyes to capture important moments. Sometimes things don’t go as expected. Someone is caught off guard, the first kiss is SUPERFAST, there is a camera malfunction, etc. Two photographers lessen the chance of missing those must-have moments

2) It gives you more variety of pictures. You’ll get things from two perspectives.

3) More pictures, period. As it turns out my favorite photo of our whole day is by our second shooter. It isn’t that my primary’s pictures weren’t great. Its just that he didn’t happen to be standing in exactly the right spot at exactly the right moment to catch THAT shot.

We added one at the very last minute. The owner called the day before to tell us that there was a photog without a wedding on my date, and she’d cover my wedding for $100. I jumped on that! But, if it was an extra $500… no way. My original photog was fantastic, and she would have been enough for me.

We have a second photographer but it was included in the total cost of our package buteven if it wasnt I would add one, my biggest reason was because one completely focuses on me when I walk down the aisle and the other is completely on FI so we dont miss a moment of each others expressions, and since Ill be too busy crying as I walk down the aisle I want a pic of what his face looks like when he sees me! Plus its double the shots so you cant go wrong!

Our package comes with a second shooter–we had one for our engagement session, as well. The photographer and her husband are great, fun people, so we really liked having the both of them there.

HUGE advantage if it’s a team of photographers who always work together or have past experience working together.  So-so advantage if it’s someone that the primary photographer is filling at the last minute whom just to satisfy having another photographer there.  It’s probably never a bad thing to have the second photographer there, it’s another angle, some potential photos that you wouldn’t have been able to have.  Your connection to the second photographer (or lack thereof) will impact the quality of the images.

I asked about this a month or so ago and my photographer was all for it with someone she has worked with before. There is too much going on at our wedding for me to have realistic expectations of our photographer being able to capture it all and me be happy with the results. It just didn’t really seem fair to expect that of one person.
