Tabs are an older type of music notation. If he can read (regular) sheet music then he should be fine. You don’t have to be able to read tabs to play the guitar. Has he ever played the guitar before? It takes awhile to build the callouses on your fingers, and (at least for me) it hurts until you do. Our friend is a classical guitarist and played Canon in D for the processional. It was so so beautiful!

i have no idea what tabs are (I’m a violinist and our music doesnt use that), but I’m sure your brother knows if he’s a guitarist…
