Was there anything you absolutely had to have or refused to have? SUch as size, color metal, stone, height ect? I know having expectations sometimes gets flamed, but I am sure I am not the only one. Personally I was adamant about recycled metal preferably from jewlery I or my family owned and a man made or passed down stone. Anyone else want something specific? Natural stone? White gold? Platinum? Diamond? ect

I had designs in my head that I liked, but we never talked about getting engaged and I never had any expectations for a ring. I knew we were in it for the long haul and I didn’t need a piece of paper and a big party to prove our commitment to each other.

I just wanted something that sparkled and that’s exactly what I got.

I wanted white gold and a marquise diamond. I got both 🙂

@Little_Hedgy: I always get in trouble for this one… My only request was that DH follow the 3 months’ salary guideline. We negotiated it down to three months after 401K contributions/insurance/taxes/etc., so it was really like 2 months.
But that means my ring was like 10K.

@angeluscado: I feel the same way about marriage. I think it’s mostly a legal thing. SO and I have already committed ourselves to one another. He’s more traditional and wanted the ring and the party. I personally just wanted my chance to be a princess and have a shiny lol

@Little_Hedgy: I knew I wanted a halo, something vintage inspired, and I did not want yellow gold. FH knew what I liked, and we had picked out my ring together. I did have a brief moment where I wavered and thought I might want a solitaire but I couldn’t be happier with my ring.

@BrandNewBride: hey to each his own! I don’t know you or your life so I can’t get all upset about it lol. And I bet your ring kicks butt. I think we all have some form of expectation whether we admit to it or not. Know what I mean Jelly Bean?

Durable and nickel free were my only requirements.

I knew I wanted a white gold halo setting. I didn’t know much more than that until we started looking at rings together and I got to try them on. Then I knew I wanted a round stone set in a cushion halo, with the stone set low into the halo. He picked the ring that was both of our favorite.

@Jabberwocky: Ick nickel free was huge for me too. I’m super allergic 🙁

I just said no side stones please 🙂

He knew I wanted a real diamond and I was partial to cushion-cut centers. Other than that, I left it up to him… however, I did make it very clear that the ring meant a LOT to me- probably more than most bees for reasons I wont get into here. He knew it was a really important symbol and treated it with the respect I did. I ended up with something better than I could have imagined 🙂

I picked my own ring so I guess this is a little different. I just had to have a halo once I tried on a rings and a white gold.
