I normally cannot stand spicy food, but I craved it constantly towards the end. Pasta with red pepper flakes, salsas, etc. I also craved fruit (I would eat a carton of berries PER MEAL) and shellfish. I polished off half of a party tray of cocktail shrimp and over a pound of crab legs at a family BBQ once during my 2nd tri. Vinegar was big, too... the Subway people always looked at me like I'd lost my mind when I ordered tuna subs with vinegar (no, that's not enough... more... more... more... and there); that's one craving that has stuck around! And I definitely got caught eating sauerkraut out of the jar with a fork.
Those first 12 weeks were so rough for me. So many aversions, especially to all forms of meat. I don't really remember craving anything in particular, but I know that when I wanted something, I just ate it, because most of the time I had no taste for anything and had to force things down. So sometimes that meant a meal of tostitos with cheese on them and that was just that. As I got into the 2nd trimester I started with the cravings. Pickles, olives, chips, fries, all things salty basically. I still love all those (I'm early 3rd tri now) things but have also had an affinity for OJ and citrus fruits, which I never really cared much for, and also cheese.
A lot of times I've found that "cravings" were really just wanting something that I had seem someone else eating or smelled, that sounded really good and I couldn't get out of my head.
Oh, I have also wanted McDonalds throughout the entire pregnancy but have only caved once or twice!
I craved olives and soy milk (not together).
I would ear jars and jars of green olives.
I can't cook anything on the stove because the smell makes me sick. I'm drinking a lot of orange juice, I'm craving that most of all. I'm craving egg rolls which is funny because cabbage was a major craving my first pregnancy (egg rolls, chow mein). Also spicy tuna rolls with cooked tuna. Definitely not craving sweet things, I'm all about the salty and sour.
I used to love spinach but one day I just couldn't stand it anymore. Even now, almost two years later, the only thing I can eat with spinach is spinach dip. I had wicked cravings for pasta with red sauce and cannoli's. I should have camped out in an Italian restaurant.
anything cheesy and covered in bacon
(aka bacon and cheddar potato wedges from jack in the box)
it's pretty disgusting, but i can't get enough greasy cheese.
@AvantLaLettre: Mine were a lot like this, I very rarely spontaneously craved a food, but if I saw something on TV, or someone mentioned something, then there was a good chance I'd have to have it.
1st Trimester I could barely eat anything, I went WEEKS on apples and carrots. (I always complained to DH it was horse food.) Apple juice, applesauce, regular apples, I ate it all. And the carrot thing has stuck around, yesterday I had a choice between carrots and chocolate cake, and I actually chose the carrots.
At 25 weeks, if I'm going to crave anything it's going to be meat, in almost any form, or milk. This baby has better eating habits than I do, she could care less about the Christmas cookies I'm making this weekend.
I crave cheese and chocolate milk. But the cravings aren't overly strong. Just more like "hmm, that would be really really good right now!"
@Quietserenity: haha, I have been eating a lot of carrots too, they are so good dipped in Ranch dressing. But then again that's always been a fave of mine!
The worst is when you want something really badly and you're forced to watch or smell someone else eating it. Every night on my way home I have to put up with smelling the greasy salty deliciousness of McDonalds from the multitude of people that bring it on the train. What I wouldn't give for daily McDonalds fries!
I've been into milk/chocolate milk this whole pregnancy and it something I wouldn't touch pre-pregnancy, so that's weird for me, haha
I'm only 9.5 weeks, but for the last 3 weeks or so I have been constantly craving cheese. Pre-pregnancy I ate a diet pretty low in dairy since it doesnt always sit well with me, well no longer. Now I have at least 1 meal a day where cheese is a main ingredient (fruit and cottage cheese, pizza, ziti, cheese + crackers, etc.).
COOKIES - any and all cookies. And I have to have a big glass of milk to go along with them. Pre-pregnancy I never ate sweets at all. But now I want cookies and other baked goods constantly. Still not interested in candy which is good I guess.
Once I was out of the first trimester when nothing sounded good- all I wanted were sweets and ice cold milk. I never used to drink milk but my body wanted it! I had a month or so of needing pickles every day. My husband and I were going through a jar every 2-3 days. Most recently and I think it's pretty funny- I want liquor! I want a glass of grand marnier on the rocks followed by some Baileys and finally I want a margarita! Only a few more weeks and then I will indulge in 1 of those! (that is if I still want it!)
With DD, I ate a lot of Greek food at the end of my pregnancy. Falafel, gyros, anything I could dump tzikiki on, it was all good. With this one, I want everything spicy. I've been putting hot sauce on everything, and especially Mexican and Chinese food taste good to me.
With one I lived on Greek salads and marinated artichoke hearts, and with the other I couldn't pass a McDonald's without getting a Big Mac.
I had one week where I craved tortilla chips. So I bought a bag at Target and kept it at my desk and just dumped handfuls on a plate to munch on.
Then one time I sent DH to a Mexican restaurant to get me a taco salad. I really went through a big Mexican kick for about 2 weeks.
But mostly if I see/smell something it brings it on. Like when we were at a basketball game and I could smell the Twizzlers that the lady in front of me was eating (seriously - super sense of smell if you can pick THAT out of a crowd!) so I had to go buy some at the concession stand.
I crave veggies -- of all things! I'm normally a carnivore and haven't craved red meat at all. I just recently discovered that I'm sensitive to eggplants (which I love) but they sting my mouth!
Recently, I also can not have fried foods. Gives me bad tummy problems ;(

I am 12 weeks pregnant and I haven't had any cravings as such, but I cant stand the smell of meat cooking, have got really fussy and prefer simple plain food. For example tonight my DH is having marinated chicken and Moroccan cous cous. I opted for baked beans on toast.
What did pregnancy do or is doing to your taste buds? Do you have any crazy cravings.
