Did you have music DURING the ceremony?

@smg5281:  Music is really important to me. As well as the processional and recessional, we’re having 2 hymns (Love, Divine, All Loves Excelling and Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven!), and 3 anthems:

Healey Willan – Rise Up My Love (performed by 5 of my friends)

Vaughan Williams – Silent Noon (solo by a friend)

A new piece composed by my great-uncle! Will be sung by FI’s cousin.

I think it’s going to be perfect. We wanted a longer ceremony because the ceremony part is what the whole day is all about.

We had music during the lighting of our unity candle.

@smg5281:  My brother sang “When I Fall In Love” after the opening prayer, and “Household of Faith” while we lit the unity candle. My other brother accompanied him on the guitar. I loved it because it was simple but beautiful.

@smg5281:  We have one scheduled song between the two readings. We are still debating doing the cord, shawl, etc stuff. Luckily, we have an amazing pianist who will improve during any awkward silences.

We had a friend play a saxophone solo during our unity sand ceremony.

We used Du bist die Ruh while signing the license in the ceremony and the mother and FMIL walked down the aisle together to light the familial unity candle to Mein Glaubiges Herze. We used another song to transition between the address and the vows.

The only thing is, time how you do your songs – even three or four minutes for a song is a looong time for a unity candle, and then you’re standing there awkwardly while the song goes on! But music during awkward silence is better than awkward silence alone, IMHO.

@smg5281:  The last wedding I went to had no music anywhere during the ceremony after the processional. The quiet just made the whole thing so much more awkward. I’m having a pianist friend of mine play some Legend of Zelda/Final Fantasy as background music throughout the entirety of the ceremony.

@HonoraryNerd:  I totally want to have Zelda music incorporated into my ceremony as well! I love the opening theme to OoT 🙂 what song(s) are you thinking of using?

@tea-and-books:  I haven’t decided yet. Since it’ll only be in the background, I may just say start at the beginning and stop once it’s time to recess. I’ll pick songs once I have the sheet music in hand to go through.

@smg5281:  We had a string quartet for our ceremony, so ours was instrumental.

However, I’ve often seen this as a time for a vocalist to perform a song for the couple, or even a great time for a song that’s special to the couple to be play (with or without words).

So I think you can really do whatever you’d like! 🙂

@smg5281:  My husband and I are pretty introverted, and the thought of speaking in front of 100+ people (even though they were close family/friends) scared us!  We had our mic turned off while we said our vows privately, and this song was played.  I just LOVE it!
