I always had a dog growing up. My parents still have a dog (living with them until the wedding). I can’t imagine not having an animal.

We only had Dogs and horses when I was growing up, so when I moved out I got a Cat and two Rabbits. I plan on getting a dog when I have more room… I am a true animal lover!!!

We always had at least 1 dog and 1 cat my entire life, until i moved out with my now FI and spent about a year together pet-less before getting our cat. He had never had a pet, no cat, no dog, nothing, until we got our dog.  I couldn’t believe it i’d never heard of anyone never having a pet! His mum is very anti-animal, she tries to love our furbaby but you can tell it’s a struggle for her haha. FI is pretty obsessed with our dog, he always says he’s making up for lost time haha

Great topic! Ugh, all my dad would let me have when I was young was rabbit, fish, hampster – I always wanted 1 cat, at least 1. Just 1 kitty cat. Oh I begged, pleaded, would have done nearly anything to have a cat. Nope, not allowed to have a cat. No one was allergic, so really no reason to not let me have a cat. Soon as I moved out of the house, got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 cats! Yea Cool Cool stuff! I was in heaven.

When people ask me, “Why do you have so many cats?” I look at them really strange – and usually say, Well you can call me a crazy cat lady if you want I don’t mind.

Now I have 3 cats. 3 have crossed over since the “time” when I moved out on my own. One had a massive stroke – he lived 3 more years after to the age of 10.5 yrs, I had adopted a “senior” she was 7 at the time, lived for 10 and a half years and died of old age at 17.5 yrs., and my latest one Ms. B – she got oral cancer and was put down at 13 yrs. old. InnocentInnocentInnocent Halo’s for my angels! They brought me so much happiness. But I think my magic number is 3. I love having 3 cats. It’s just the right amount of love to give and recieve back. I don’t have leg room for 6 – but almost enough for 3 at once.

I have often said, “If my father would have let me have 1 cat when I grew up I probably would never have had 6 at one time, even though all cats were happy and healthy. Very well behaved. It was the freedom of knowing that I could have as many cats as I felt comfortable with, so I did it and I did a great job too.”

Growing up I had a total of three cats (one ran away after less than a year 🙁 ) some hamsters, some fish, and my mom got a dog when I was a senior in high school (never really bonded with him because I went off to college and whatnot). When I was in 3rd grade, my sister and I were given the option to get a cat or get cable….we chose to get a cat! My family still has two of the cats and the dog.

We have two kitties now. FI never had pets growing up, but he loves our furbabies so much!! It’s adorable 🙂

@MrsPanda99:  I agree with you! People who say, “I don’t like animals” or “I hate cats” or “I hate dogs” – I stay far far away from them. People who don’t like animals scare the hell outta me.

As a child, we had birds, bunnies, hamsters, ducks, and fish. I wasn’t allowed a dog or cat. So of course, I got a dog as soon as I moved out my own. As an adult, I’ve had dogs, cats, snakes, sugar gliders, birds and fish. We currently have a skunk and two English Bulldogs. I’ve never been without a pet in my life and I can’t imagine it any other way. TBH, I prefer my pets to most people, lol!

Here is another reason I love animals – especially cats and dogs – just look at this image, isn’t it amazing? The bond between John Unger and his beloved dog Schoep (who just passed away) – at 20 years old! This man, John, would take his dog and have him float on his chest to ease the pain of arthritis, in Lake Superior, which is one of the coldest lakes!! John had to be freezing but endured the pain to provide Schoep with pain relief. Schoep was so trusting and loving of his owner (family) – Sometimes pictures aren’t  worth a thousand words, some pictures just hold there own weight in love. This picture is just: SO AMAZING TO ME.
