Nope. I'm a non-lick-ite.
Plus I saw what happened to George's FI on Seinfeld! Pooor Susan. RIP.
I like the envelopes that have self adhesive...otherwise use a sponge... I hate licking envelopes!!
No way. If you don't want to use a "device," get a bowl of water and dip your finger in it, then rub it on the adhesive. That's crazy.
That is totally crazy. Sponge all the way! ...or get a dog to lick them :)
lol bellenga, I thought the same thing! Poor George... his penny pinching ways robbed him of a lifetime of happiness. :(
Oh I couldn't imagine... I'll be using a sponge!
I get a tiny dish or bowl of water and use a q-tip. The water when I was done with my invites looked almost like milk, I feel so different about licking any random envelope after that!!
didnt Georges fiance in Seinfield die of wedding invitation envelope licking poisoning?

Haha thanks ladies good to know people don't actually LICK them! That is just NUTS! I like the finger/water idea, thanks marigold!
I just used stickers to seal it... I didn't even bother with it. Otherwise, I probably would have licked... That said, I didn't have 200 invites, probably only about 30 tops. I've always just licked the envelopes. Hubby usually gives me funny looks :p I do remember that Seinfeld episode though! Man, that show really covered everything!
I so glad so many of you mentioned the Seinfeld reference. That was immediately what I thought of when I read the title!
Somehow I totally missed that one I think! I can't recall it even though I've seen so many of those episodes!
I used stickers I found at Party City to help seal the back of the envelopes. They were little hearts that came out to be pretty cheap when comparing the same ones to the ones they had at Michael's for almost triple the price. If you're looking for a seal, they have TONS to choose from at Michaels. Melt the wax and stamp it with your own monogrammed stamp. Just look for it in the wedding section. Unfortunately, we didn't find them until after we finished sending out the invites. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
Yeah, no way. I used a sponge.
LOL, Belle. And to quote Seinfeld again. The inviations are definitely spongeworthy.
I use cheap $1 store glue sticks for EVERY envelope I have to seal. I always end up with paper cuts on my tongue if I lick them. I bet if you're careful you can use a sponge without smearing anything. I'd just let them dry really good before stacking them up.
Let us know how it works out for you & good luck! ;)
I used a sponge for me STD envelopes. The first few got messed up b/c I used too much water but once I got the hang of it, the rest looked great!
LOL, Belle and Tanya123. I kept thinking of that Seinfeld epsiode while we were preparing the invitations. We used a sponge to seal the invitations. No way I was going to lick all those babies.
Nope, I am a clumsy envelope licker and tend to get paper cuts on my tongue! I'm a finger and water girl myself.
This is too funny! Mom bought me an envelope sealing "glue stick" so that I wouldn't end up like Susan...
Haha I tried to use a sponge, but it wasn't working, so I licked them all, trying to take my time and drink water in between, thinking that would keep me from dying. LOL all I could think of was Seinfeld!
I'm not licking mine either. In fact, I can't... This is weird, but if you have a gluten allergy or Celiac like I do, you can't because there is gluten on it. So, even if I have one thing to mail, I make my FI lick the envelope. But for the 150 invites we're sending... sponge all the way.
Honestly, when I was writing up the invites I was more focused on getting them done since I had a marathon session one night so I didn't even think of the water and finger trick... I licked my way through 80 envelopes
... BUT happy to say no paper cuts!!
haha... i'm with roddybride... licked all my envelopes because i just wanted them done and sent already!
i would just ust a glue stick or a damp q-tip.. i agree with bellenga.. licking stamps reminds of george's fiance death!
I did lick mine, but I only had about 20. Nevertheless, I was thinking about Seinfeld as I was doing it. Happy to report no ill effects.
I just used a little water and spead it with a q tip. I can't imagine doing 90 envelopes that way!
I am planning on using either a sponge/qtip or glue stick to close ours. LOL i immediately thought of the Seinfeld episode too!
We had an assembly line putting my invites together... 2 maids, 2FSILs, me, and the MOH. I was addressing the envelopes and passing them to MOH to stuff and seal. MOH licked every single one, I could not believe it!!
Good idea on the finger or q-tip ideas......just be careful you don't over wet. I don't think anyone mentioned that above, I only read several and didn't read all 32 posts so far, but if you over wet then the envelope won't seal or you will soak the paper and then it will soak the invite.....BAD!!!!!
I used a makeup sponge - totally agree with above to be sparing with the water. I had a couple that wouldn't seal after I got them too wet!
...am I the only person who didn't really think about this AT ALL and licked all the STDs? :D
sigh, not too many of us 'lickers' here!
HI, im a lick-o-holic. I licked ALL of my invites, 100 of them! whatevs
Bleck, I hate the taste of envelopes :-P I'm most likely going to use a sponge as well.
Nope! Too many envelopes to lick! Yucky! Damp sponge did the trick :)
NO! we used a damp sponge and a damp paper towel. Blech, I would have been seriously ill if I had licked them - and I only did 36 envelopes!

This is a weird question but did you guys actually LICK all of your invitations to seal them? My calligrapher told us not to use any "device" to seal them, because it would smear them. She said to lick them all!! But i cannot even IMAGINE licking 200 envelopes!!! YUCK!! Please advise! TIA!
