I definitely did not - we were traveling around Europe, staying in cheap hotels and running around sightseeing all day. I'm very much a practical traveler, so I usually wear jeans and a tshirt, no make-up, and sneakers. I had a feeling he might propose on the morning of, so I washed and blow-dried my hair and chose one of my nicer jeans/t-shirts combos. But that was pretty much it.
On a side note, I really don't understand the tourists strolling around European cities in dresses and high heels. The streets have cobblestones and you'll be walking all day!!!
We went out for a nice dinner, so we were both realllyyyyy dressed up. I'm glad we were, as a friend was around and took pictures right after it happened! :)
Nope. I can't remember what I was wearing, but I was in the middle of putting up a mini-blind, so likely I was not dressed up. Haha.
We were out to dinner, so we both looked fairly nice, though I had had a disaster day and looked a bit disheveled. Also, my shirt was gaping open in the front, which I did not know til after I saw the pictures. Woohoo, free show!
Nope. I was wearing sweats and sitting on the couch. Attractive.
I looked like crap. LOL, we had been snorkeling all morning so I had zero makeup on, my hair was a clumpy dried out saltwater mess. Since he actually proposed while snorkeling too, when we came onshore, he snapped a couple of pictures of me to capture the moment so I had my snorkel mask shoved upward on my head so I've got all these mask lines on my face and then the mask had shoved my wet hair upward so it's sticking up in weird places. Definitely a Kodak moment!
Nope, I was walking in from the garage coming home from work. Hot Mess.
Heck NO! I wash my hair every other day, and it happened to be the night I didn't wash my hair. I had a feeling he was going to propose but had been waiting for MONTHS, so I didn't feel that I needed to get dressed up that night just incase it wasn't "the" night.
I did wear a nice shirt I had went out and bought that day, some jeans and heels. We went to a very nice restaurant with some friends, but my camera died on the way there. So I didn't even get to take a picture of the beautiful arrangement my ring came out on :( I'm there with you ladies!
I had been up at 4am, been on 2 planes, I was hot, sweaty, tired, and kind of grody. But I did take a shower right after we got engaged so then I looked much nicer :)
We were a bit like you Girlwitharing, we'd been traveling for almost two weeks around Costa Rica with just our backpacks, washing our clothes in the sink. We'd also just been biking and hiking and I'd fallen into some really itchy bushes as well as cried because the overlook we hiked to had all sorts of cut down trees (a little fallen paradise). But the scenery was absolutely gorgeous when we got back down to the beach and my husband doesn't really care about having dirty clothes so I don't think it's something he noticed or cared about.
haha! i love hearing other people's experiences. i was unshowered, in gym clothes, with my hair in an unruly ponytail. i'll be posting a pic later on.
It could have been worse I guess. I had just gotten off of work, and I work at a hotel, so I was in a pencil skirt, blouse and pink scarf.
I changed right after and we went to dinner.
i was dressed up (because i hoped it was it) but didn't do my hair (3 months of roots too!) because i didn't want to get my hopes up! wish i would have at least brushed my hair!
@CorgiTales same thing for me! I got stuck in Atlanta between flights so I didn't even have a clean pair of clothes (they sent my baggage on). I was disgusting and had NO idea it was coming! Thankfully he asked anyway :)
It was 10pm and I wanted to go to bed. I had just taken a shower and washed my hair. He made up some story about taking a walk to the ice cream store to make my dry my hair so I wouldn't be proposed to with a towel on my head!
Yes, even though we were just having a quiet New Year's alone together, he suggested that we still dress up. It was fun!
Definitely not! I was sweaty and in shorts and a t-shirt and my hair was a disaster. And after he proposed he told me all our friends were on their way over to celebrate--I then took the fastest shower of my life lol.
I was all dressed up BEFORE before he proposed, but then right before, I had thrown on North Face pants and like 40,000 layers for fireworks on the beach. So makeup done, but clothes not so much.
When my FI proposed, it was during a camping/roadtrip. We had been driving, backpacking, and sleeping in tents for about 5 days at this point so I know I looked gross. Also, the night before I had been so so sick. It really was true love on his part to ask such a mess to marry him. Lol!
Nope! I just got off work but i did look pretty cute b/c I work somewhere which I can be pretty liberal about what I wear. I mean the biggest issue was my nails were a mess! You better believe I have since given myself a mani!
I don't even know what I was wearing. We just laying on the couch. I didn't even EXPECT the proposal. We hadn't looked at rings in 2 years, didn't talk about it too much, and I was expecting him to want to go ring shopping before so I had no idea it was coming. He went ring shopping all on his own! My nails weren't done, I was probably in sweats!
We were at home, and I was dressed in what I wore on our first date. Part of my husband's engagement surprise was to re-create our first date at home. So I was in jeans and a top with very little make-up. I was comfy, and I loved it :)
I wasn't that dressed up. We were in Cairns, Australia and it was stinking hot!
Ummm, nope. It was cold outside and I was just recovering from the flu and had no idea a proposal was coming. I had been whining all day about how I didn't want to go anywhere and just wanted to sleep. Somehow he convinced me to go for a little walk outside.
Hahah no!!!!
After FI and I went to dinner on the pier right by our house, he wanted to talk a walk down the pier. Knowing that he wanted to go for a walk, I brought a pair of flats with me and took off my Louboutins and put them into my purse. I rolled up my jeans and off we went.
At the end of the pier, we sat down and he proposed. Before I could get out a "yes," I told him that I didn't have enough makeup on for this and he just laughed. I had always pictured me looking my best and not sitting there is 5 inch heel length jeans rolled up, my hair in a messy pony tail with little makeup on.
It was perfect though.
I looked pretty rough when my honey proposed. I had just got back to my apartment after a long, awful day of work and there he was....waiting for me with this sly smile and roses all over the place. Even though I wish I would have been all dolled up, it was perfect.
I was very close to being naked. We had just finished a couples massage! I had barely put my robe on when he started getting lovey-dovey telling me how much he loved me and before I knew it, he was on one knee proposing!
Absolutely not! FI proposed in the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. He waited until sunset to do it, which was super romantic, but after splash mountain and 90 degree heat, I didn't look my best! Shorts, t-shirt, and my hair in a sloppy bun...I've got pics to remember it all!
Nope, I was wearing my beat up aldo boots some leggings and my sweater dress. I had no idea it was gonna happen!
totally not! we were out camping on lake Erie (down the road from Cedar Point!) and it was at night when we were *trying* to go to sleep...we were in the tent and he slipped the ring on my finger! :)
i love this thread!
I was disgusting. (no, really.) It was 102 degrees out, we were mountain biking and sweaty and dirty, and I was wearing yesterday's clothes.
It was rather perfect. =)
My friend got engaged last spring when her bf surprised her during a girls week at the beach. The girls went shopping and came home to a trail of rose petals with notes along the path. One of the stops on the path was in the bedroom with all of her favorite dresses laid out. He'd brought them all the way from TN because he knew she'd want to look pretty. I thought that was so sweet!
Nope! I was on the couch watching SportsCenter and checking my email after a night out with his friends. My hair/makeup looked cute, but I was wearing a white v-neck Hanes tshirt, no bra, and yoga pants.
I was seriously shocked (I thought it was going to happen earlier that night, so when it didn't, I immediately wrote it off for that night). The first words out of my mouth were, "You little shit!"
Not even a little. Not a stitch of makeup on, in ski clothes, and had a pretty severe case of goggle lines. But head that grown in mountain man stubble all over his facea and it was perfect!
We were taking our U-haul to our new house, so we were in moving attire (super sexy isn't it). Plus my nails and hair were a wreck because we were cleaning the apartment we lived in before. LOL I just remembered we were having a pellet gun war in the apartment and we shot at the vinyl blinds and broke some so we were trying to hide that on our final walk through with the apartment manager.
I was semi dressed up for dinner, but the shirt I wore (the only one clean!) made me look pregnant.... lol! When I found out we were going to a different restaurant then what he originally said (he proposed before dinner, and kept telling me we were going to Applebee's to meet with his work friends) I did change, but all my engagement pictures of the moment, I look a little pregnant in!
Nope!! We were hanging out when he decided to go for a drive. I mean, I didn't look awful, but nothing special either!
I looked awful. We had been outside in a boat on a lake during the hotest part of the day so I was sweaty and nasty. But in the end it didn't matter.
