We moved in the next day.  My closing appointment was later in the afternoon, and it was in December so it was dark out by the time I finished all the paperwork.  We just waited til the next day so we could move in the daylight.

I waited – the place needed some work and I wanted to paint the entire thing (inside) before moving in. I closed in Feb. and didn’t move in until April. I know that sounds ridiculous but I live in NYC and my lease on my old place wasn’t up until April anyhow, and I couldn’t break it. I did TONS of work on it before moving in!

We did, we were couch hopping for a few weeks because the lease was up on our apartment before we closed!

We waited about 4 months due to renovations, but we did go right after the closing and starting doing demo.

We moved in the same day!  I was so excited to sleep in our first home that night!

ETA: Our home was a new build so there was no painting/renos/cleaning/etc that needed to be done before moving in.

We didn’t move our furniture in, but did take a car load of stuff over and sleep on an air mattress on the living floor!  It was exciting.

We spent about a month painting and getting the old place cleaned up.  It is great being able to paint rooms without having furniture in them, but not something that happens every time you move.

I didn’t. I painted the entire place before I moved in-so much easier with no furniture.

I also cleaned and scrubbed inside the kitchen and bathroom cupboards, bedroom closets etc.

We didn’t. We completely gutted it (floors, carpet, appliances — EVERYTHING) and did painting + renovations for a solid three months before even being able to sleep in it.

The moment we got our keys, we walked in the door and took a sledgehammer to the entryway wall lol.

We closed friday evening and loaded up the moving truck Sat morning.  My husband subleased his apartment and had to be out 2 days later.

i think only once.  the one time that i did move in on the closing day, the people whose home i bought took forever getting their stuff out of there.  i had my moving truck full (because i just closed on the house i sold) and waited to unload for a good hour or so.

the other homes that i bought were new so i didn’t have to wait.

No.  We waited a few days, because we wanted to clean the entire house before moving our stuff into it.

We closed midday and then took like 5 carloads of fragile stuff and art over to the new place so that we knew it was safe in the new house in advance of moving the furnature/everything else the next day.  🙂

We didn’t paint or need to renovate anything because it was a new build, but if we’d of had to do those things it certainly would have been easier without furnature and cats in the way.
