I haven’t decided if I need videography yet, but I’m seriously considering it. We’re having a Monday, destination wedding. Should I be trying to negotiate a lower price with potential vendors? I seem to have expensive taste..the lowest priced packages for the vendors I’m considering are in the $2K-$2.5K range. Did you have any success negotiating with vendors to get a lower price?

Yup, and it worked.
I told the photographer how much I loved his stuff, but I couldnt afford him. He dropped his price because I was “off-season”.
I was able to negotiate a lower price with the vendor and then my dad got another $2 off. Eventually saving us $15from the initial quoted price.
Be careful not to insult them, praise them, and the worst they can say is no.

I negotiated with every vendor that we are employing. Just let them know you are on a strict budget and would like to know if they can customize something that will work for you.

At the beginning stages of wedding planning I did not, now I do. When I contact a vendor and if I receive an initial quote that is above what I was looking to pay, I let them know of my budget for that particular item and hope they are willing to work with me. So far, the negotiating has yielded a significant savings.

Definitely. Just let them know that you’re on a budget!

I negotiated with some, even if you can’t get the price lowered you may be able to get extra stuff included in the cost. With our venue, we couldn’t drop the price, but we did get extra drinks, canapes and an evening barbecue included at no extra cost. With my make up artist she agreed to also do the makeup for the bridesmaids and my mom for free!
I’m terrible at negotiating as I get too excited about my vendors and just want to book them on the spot. But if you tell them their price is over your budget and also have a set figure in your mind of how much you’d like to pay before talking to them you’ll find the conversation goes more easily.
Since your wedding is a Monday you should be able to get a serious discount, normally that would be a no-income day for most wedding vendors…

We got a lot of extra stuff included in our catering (~ $15/plate), and I got my photographer to throw in the photo CD for free (normally $150). We’re also using friendors for flowers, so there’s no contract yet but I know we’re getting a deal. I agree with praising them, and the worst they can say is no.
