Generally, if you require them to go to a salon to have it done, you have to pay for it. If you ask them to do something really simple that they can do themselves, though, you can get out of it.

It’s not customary in my circle. I’ve always paid for my own hair / makeup when in the wedding party. I am thinking about paying for my girls as a gift though.. Haven’t decided yet.

I didn’t ask them to get it done professionally.  I’m doing my own hair and make-up and figured they would too.  However, one wants to have hers done professionally, so she’s paying for it herself.

I agree with @jo.lee – if you insist that they get it done professionally, you pay. If you give them free rein, it’s up to them and on their dime.

@pooks75: It sounds like you’re fine, then. As long as you’re not demanding they do it and they know they can opt out, you don’t have to pay. It’s only when you tell them they absolutely have to have it done that you should really pay for it.

@pooks75: Maybe you can pay for their hair instead of manis/pedis? As a bridesmaid, I’d rather just do my own nails and get my hair done professionally instead. Just a thought!

@pooks75: I understand how you feel, but honestly, they should know you’ve got a lot to cover and they likely don’t expect you to pay. You’re giving them generous gifts with the spa/mani/pedis. I wouldn’t worry about it. Keep in mind it can be VERY expensive. I ended up paying for five ‘dos – mine, plus my MOH (my 15-yr-old stepdaughter) and my three young nieces, and it was almost $600 with tips. Yikes.

It’s not customary around these parts. I’ve been in a few weddings and I’ve only had one bride “treat” me to my hair. One of her friends gifted the ‘maids hair to her so it’s not even like she paid for it.

With that said, I was planning on only covering my MOH’s hair and makeup but now it looks like I probably have to cover everyones. My MOH forgot that I was only going to cover hers and she made the mistake of mentioning it to my other ‘maids when we were out to lunch. They both seemed so excited and I didn’t have the heart to set it straight. I’m going to see how much everything will cost and if I come in under budget on some aspects, I’ll spring for it.

We had someone come to the synagogue to do the brides’ hair and make-up.  We asked my MOH whether she wanted hers done too, or whether she wanted to do it herself.  She opted for doing it herself.

I helped them pay for their dresses and am covering the tips for any beauty treatments we do together… I told them that they have to get their hair done  (it will cost them 30$) but everything else is optional

In my circle usually you pay for your own hair. I am paying for my BM but I gave them the option of a gift or paying for their hair and they picked that.
