We had a vague idea of when we’d like to get married (spring 2012) long before we were “officially” engaged and a probable date soon about two months before, but we set our date based on the availability of our venue.
I’ve seen other people saying that they’ve picked their date and then looked for a venue based on that. Was it because the date meant a lot to you or some other reason?

we picked the month and then we saw what the reception venue had available

We really wanted to get married in June because of our school schedules, and the 16th was the most convenient for a few reasons. Venues don’t book too quickly around here though, so we had the date in mind when we looked, but we would’ve changed it if we’d needed to.

We originally were thinking June, but June 25th was already our dating anniversary and it fell on a Saturday, so we chose the date first.

Booked the venue and then date. Then 1st venue was cancelled by vendor (private farm). Big headache! So date changed again when I booked second venue (no availability in June). Went from Saturday to Friday wedding but who cares, it’s a wedding regardless! 🙂

We picked our date first. We booked our venue over a year in a half in advance so that we could have our choice of date.

- Wedding: September 2011 - Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California)
We picked out the month and then choose from our venue’s available dates. We ended up with one we’re totally excited about!

Simultaneously =) we picked a venue and realized we wanted a specific date they didn’t have!! Did some negotiating and got our date at our venue!!

We picked the date first. We were about 1.5 years out so I figured most venues would be available.

Fell in love with the venue, wanted to get married in May on a Friday, worked out the details from there.

We picked our date we knew that this is what we wanted. We got engaged 7/4/10 and set our date for 11/11/11 and We were looking at venues for that date before we even were officially engaged. We wanted to make sure wherever we decided to have it was avalible for our date.

We had a date picked that we wanted (July 28, 2012), but it wasn’t do-able at the venue we chose, so we switched to August 25, 2012. I’m happy now that we switched because we are getting married outside, and the weather won’t be as humid at the end of August.

We narrowed it down to weekends that worked (myself, Darling Husband and all our good work friends worked the same 4 on, 4 off schedule at the time, and can’t all take the same day off), then narrowed it down further by our VIP’s availability dates and then looked for venues that we liked that also had availablity for one of the dates that worked for us.

We picked a date first, then a venue, then paid for it, then got engaged… a bit backwards, I know! The date was pretty important to us though.
