@TwoStatesBride:  So exciting!  My final fitting is tomorrow too!

I think if you take it home tomorrow that would be fine, but maybe if you are worried about it being too soon, you could ask if they can hold onto it and steam the dress and veil closer to the day and you could pick it up then?

I didn’t. My seamstress still had to press my dress so it wasn’t quite ready to take home.

I’m getting married on the 10th and picking my dress up on the 1st. It would have been ready the day after my final fitting (Sept 11th) if I wanted it right away, but I figured that it would be better for it to be pressed closer to the wedding date.

@TwoStatesBride:  Good idea!  I’m glad I have a spare room (renamed the Wedding Room) to put my dress into so the cats don’t have their way with it once I bring it home.

@TwoStatesBride:  My final fitting was on the Tuesday before the wedding.  I needed him to do one little thing (sew my sash on), and when he finished that on the wednesday, he took it to the salon to be steamed.  They steamed it and my veils on Friday morning, and I picked it up friday around noon, took it straight to the hotel, and hung it up where it wouldn’t wrinkle.

Not sure what is “normal”, but that was my experience.

@TwoStatesBride:  I left my dress with the boutique until the day before our wedding. As long as the dress is with the boutique it is their responsibility to insure that nothing happens to it. Once it is in your possession you are responsible. I just didn’t want ANYTHING to happen to it between the time it was ready and our wedding.

After my numerous fittings, I did take it home on my final fitting.  I went in and tried on the dress, took it off, got dressed and went to get lunch.  They made some final alterations while I was gone (sewing in the padding to the bra, stuff like that) and I came back and picked it up.

I had my last fitting (grabbing calendar)….8 days before the wedding and I still had to have some slight alterations done by my aunt.  I was just so dang tired of going to the dress shop, trying it on, missing work, and it was just a small thing and my aunt did it on my couch and we watched TV.  I hung the dress in the bag on a door so it would not be in the way or get dirty.

I think I picked mine up about a week before the wedding and it was fine. No crinkles on my dress! It hung beautifully despite being in the dress bag for that time. It might depend on your material though!
