Did you sell your dress? And for how much?

I have been debating recently over whether or not to sell my dress. At first I couldn't bring myself to part with it but now I feel that I could use the extra money instead of having it sit in the basement.

But how much can you resell a dress for? My dress was originally $4,200 and then I had additional work added to the train for a total of $5,200. The dress is a size 6 and didn't need much alterations, just needed to be taken in around the chest area. I did wear it for 12 hours and part of the strip of beads on the back needs to be resecured, but it has been cleaned and preserved.

What do you think? How much would you try to sell a dress like that for? Is it even worth it?

P.S. I'm not posting to try to advertise on the boards, I would certainly use the classified section or additional pre-owned dress sites if I decided. Just trying to figure out what to sell it for it I did.

I would sell it for 60%-70% of the original price--whoever buys it will have to get alterations done too, so I don't think you can consider that cost.

@Roe- Ok. That sounds fair. The $5,200 doesn't include the alterations I had to pay since I agree it shouldn't be a cost you pass on.

Most of the pre-owned sites suggest 60% off at least.

Depends on how popular the dress is, but maybe 2K?

I was only able to sell my dress for about 25% of what I paid for it.

As of right now, after the big day I'm planning to sell mine, and will start at 50% of what I paid for it.

I was shopping preowned for a while before I found a sample, and I didn't really look at anything with a shallower discount than that.
