Were you still surprised when you got it?
We were talking about rings the other night and SO mentioned something about a custom ring, because it seems like there aren’t that many options for heart-shaped rings.
So I went hunting through custom settings and I found it. It’s only for gemstones, but omigosh, it has a big center stone, halo, and split-shank band in 14K white gold. Everything I want and under $1,000.
It’s only a picture, so I have no idea what it would look like in real life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m controlling. (But I am, lol.)

We’re ring shopping together. I’m 90% sure I’ve picked out the ring I want, but we’re going to go to a few more places. He’s going to pick out the center stone. I’m pretty sure I’ll be surprised no matter what.

No, but I sent him a list several months in advance of features I do like and features I don’t like (with links to pictures). There was enough variety in there that I didn’t know exactly what I’d be getting. He really appreciated the list, by the way. Some guys would way prefer to be told what you want. Is your Fiance like that?
Honestly, if I did want something that specific, I wouldn’t have had a problem telling him. I just preferred a little bit of a surprise.
I’ll say though, I think you will still be SO excited and surprised when you get it. It’s a totally different thing to look at it on your hand than to look at pictures. It is still very fun, even if you have an idea it is coming and what style is coming.

I picked out every aspect of my ring – stone, setting, metal. My Fiance refused to buy anything unless I chose it and was 100% sure it’s what I wanted. Same with wedding band. I was having a hard time decididng between two bands and told him to chose, he again refused!
I was still extremely excited and happy when I got my ring since I loved it, and he still managed to surprise me with the proposal even though I knew he had the ring.

@misskittenn: Lol send it to him. It’s better to end up with what you want than something you don’t.
I’m as Type A as can be. I have picked my ring and told him and done this same process after each time I change my mind 🙂
Sure I am annoying but I want to pick my own ring.

Nope, i had no say, in fact, i didn’t even see the proposal coming at all. He picked it all on his own. But i did pick the wedding band

He knew exactly what I wanted- from the metal, the stone cut, the size, everything. Some people think that’s not romantic or he didn’t get to choose the ring that he thought would fit me best, but I don’t really care- I’ll be wearing it on my finger for the rest of my life and I want it to be perfect.

i told him what i wanted and he got me exactly that. i was only surprised how quickly he proposed..

I picked out a selection of rings and left the rest up to him. He picked my favorite one lol

@NAvery: Yeah he is kind of like that, he’d rather me tell him specifically what I want. I guess I get kind of caught up in what looking for the ring and the proposal should be like instead of just asking for what I really want.

Pretty much yes.. a year or two before we even got engaged, I found a ring I loved on Etsy and saved it in his internet bookmarks (not without him knowing), and he ended up proposing with that same ring design, although maybe different specs. He didn’t seem either sad or pleased that I basically chose the ring!

Somewhat…but we went and looked together. Then I narrowed down the settings and he chose from those.

Not only did I tell him what I wanted, but I also was the one to communicate with the Etsy seller, set up the custom listing, and add it to my shopping cart. LOL. All he had to do was get my password and log on to order it.
When I got it in the mail a couple weeks later – oh my! It was even more gorgeous in person. Absolutely perfect.
I’d send it to him. Your heart is set on that one, and you know you want it. I’m sure he just wants to get something he knows you’ll love.

I saw pictures of what I wanted, asked people what their specs were, we went ring shopping together and then he worked with a jeweler and had my ring designed based off what I asked. It’s very slightly different from what I wanted, but still absolutely perfect and gorgeous and I love it LOVE IT.. cannot stop staring! The one major difference is that the side stones are a bit smaller than I asked for, but I absolutely LOVE IT like this. Wow, really sidetracked from your original question – yes, I was still surprised because I never saw the ring as a whole thing together before, even when ring shopping.

I told Darling Husband what I wanted….something unique…a cushion cut halo with pave side stones on the band. Ok, not unique AT ALL. So he got me a setting that was unique with pave on the band, but it is a round brilliant cut, no halo. I LOVE it!
