That episode was AMAZING!! I am excited that Kal Penn is making such a big move, but I'm glad I didn't know that going in! I was so shocked, and I thought the show handled it really gracefully.
The scene with House walking around the apartment with Wilson? Trying to find the answer to the "puzzle" that wasn't there? Brilliant character development/loyalty!
We watched it & we were shocked too!!! and then I saw the article in the Globe today about Kal Penn....very cool for him! Although it is funny as to me he will always be "Kumar".
It's hard to believe he played a terrorist on 24! From terrorist to the White House... what a journey.
Did you guy see the farewell letters each character wrote for Kutner? My favorite one was from House:

It was such a great episode, and after the whole thing, I was thinking, "I wonder why he had to leave the show?!" Thanks to the internet, my news homepage told me this morning. The White House! Who would've thought? I have to agree with happilywaiting.. he will always be Kumar for me, too :)
Well they had to find a way to get Kumar off the show! But yeah- that was a little drastic. I think they should have had him have a face off with House and have House like... ruin the young aspiring physicians career before it started!
Oh, I dunno, Sparkles. House is tough, but I've never seen him as THAT cruel or ruthless. Plus, I don't know if House takes anything personally enough to "get even." It's hard to be invested when you don't for relationships, y'know? :)
Can you tell I watch TOO MUCH House? :) :)
Is there even such a thing as too much House? I don't think so! :D and yeah, Kutner's death was totally out of nowhere. DH screamed at me (I was on weddinbee of course) when they found Kutner's body. He was not happy...haha. So crazy though! Good episode, but I'll miss the character.
Kutner wsa solving all the cases lately... he was the heir apparent!
Who do you think was the better doctor: Kutner or Chase? I think Kutner was way better... plus, he didn't get engaged to any other actors on the show and then break off the engagement!!
Chase has a much cooler accent though...
Didn't Chase and Cameron get married IRL, though? I thought they did!
I personally preferred Kutner, but that's just because Chase really irked me when he sold out to the board bigwig who wanted to get rid of House (whose name currently escapes me...). Kutner was just so sweet and well-meaning. I adored him. :)
@drifts - They were engaged, and then they broke it off. I don't know which one of them broke the engagement though.
It's my theory that that's why Chase and Cameron rarely get screen time, but Foreman is still on the team. Also if you look closely, even when Chase and Cameron are on camera at the same time... they almost never talk to each other. Or when they do talk, they don't look at each other.
Or they're not talking at all, like when they were both carrying Kutner's coffin at his funeral!
Oooh, how did I miss that? Good theory, Mr. Bee! Now I'll be looking for that when I watch!
I think we're gonig to get to see more Chase and Cameron stuff this week, which I'm happy about.
FH and I both enjoyed Kal Penn's work on House, it was fun to watch him play off Hugh Laurie. While I'll miss the character, I really have to applaud the way that they did it. There was no cheesy montage scene, and it was right at the beginning of the episode. Startling, just like in real life. I hope that it raises awareness!
I was stunned by it, but I thought they did it really well. They also didn't lose the characters in their grief... like, they didn't act in a way that made you go, "That's not how 13 would act!" And the scene where they found him was really intense. They handled it really well. I thought the online tribute was a little much, though.
I was just as stunned by why he left! It made me really respect him, though. He's putting his money and more importantly, his time where his mouth is. He'll be making almost as much per year as he did per episode now.
I'm getting all the series sent to me via Netflix so I can watch from the begining. I knew Kutner was committing suicide though, there was a spoiler out last week. You know that even Kal didn't know his character would die? He was shocked and sad, and even though the only part of the body they show are the legs, he was still present for the filming. So sad!
Oh! Oh! I'm so glad this board is here. Fi and I watched this epi last night and couldn't BELIEVE IT! Kutner has been my fave since they were competing for spots on House's team and he was kicked out, then flipped his number from a 6 to a 9 or the other way around.
I was STUNNED when I heard he died...and shocked when I saw how! Woah! I do think they did a really great job with it and with putting up the depression/suicide info at the end, but I hate that he died. However, Fi and I both agreed...we like him even MORE now that we know he's headed to DC, taking a HUGE paycut and taking part in a presidency he truly believes in. What a great role model!

Seriously... only read this post if you watched this week's episode.
Ok here goes, SPOILERS BELOW!!
Wow... I can't believe Kutner committed suicide. I did not see that coming!! I thought maybe Taub was acting weird and had murdered him... but I read an interview, and they confirmed that it was a suicide. Holy cow...
It was just so powerful and brilliant. I've had friends kill themselves, and sometimes there just are no signs. And House prides himself on knowing everything about his team members... so this is shaking him to the core.
But the part that blew me away the most... Kal Penn is quitting to work in the Obama administration?!? As "associate director in the White House office of public liaison"?!

Who knows... maybe he will be the Ronald Reagan of our times. Go Kumar!!
ps I'm still in shock over the episode.
