@RainStorm:  To me that finger is sacred.  I don’t like it when I see my teenage students wearing random rings on that finger.  It feels…I don’t know…wrong!

@ceebree:  This. For me it’s ‘significant’ finger and I wanted to keep it that way.

Plus it’d be annoying to have to keep explaining to everyone else that you’re not engaged.

I did.  I’m a righty and just don’t like rings on my right hand.

FI gets me gemstone rings for my birthday so I have an amethyst and diamond halo and a blue sapphire ring I used to wear on my ring finger.  Unfortunately, now that real estate is occupied with my engagement ring, I have 2 beautiful rings I never wear anymore that only fit that finger!

In high school/into college I wore my class ring on that finger. I stopped doing that at about age 20 or so. It was naked from then on.

I wore a decoy sometimes so that men would leave me alone. Sad thing is that it didn’t always work.

I didn’t, but I wore lots of rings on my left middle finger instead.  Now it feels like too much to wear them both, so they are retired!  My fingers are annoying in that each finger seems to be a different size, especially between hands…

I’ve always worn lots of rings…but never one on that finger! For the past 4 years I’ve worn one ring on my left hand and three on my right. Prior to that I wore 3 on my right and 2 on my left (SO bought me a gorgeous topaz ring that I thought deserved my left hand to itself, so I stopped wearing my class ring lol). We’ve made jokes for awhile that SO can’t buy my any more rings until THAT one!

It’s always bothered me when I saw people wearing a ring on their left ring finger when they weren’t engaged/married. I had some friends in high school that did that occasionally, and I always thought it was really bizarre.

The bottom band is my promise ring from FH. I planned to wear it on a different finger but was told by everyone else that promise rings are to be worn on the left ring finger so I wore it there somedays, other fingers sometimes. No one thought I was engaged or anything. And it didn’t even make it a year until it was replaced by the e ring!

I didn’t care, I wore random rings on any finger.  I didn’t really have much of a concept of a “ring finger” until my fiancé started talking engagement.  In fact, I used to wear my grandmothers’ ring on that finger because it was the only one it fit, and when I was trying on engagement rings I would have to take hers off just before we went into the store, because I realized it would look like I was making my man get me an upgrade! LOL.

I always wore whatever the hell i wanted, and no, not once did I have to explain that I wasn’t engaged. not that i think there’s anything weird or shameful about that.

    it is just a finger!

Encore Bride, and Older Bee here

    Interesting discussion

When I was growing up, there was no “thing” about not wearing a ring on that finger… so I certainly did as a kid, teen, young woman.

(And had many a daydream about what boy crush might have given it to me and proposed, lol)

But from the time my first Husband gave me my Promise Ring in Uni, that was the ONLY Ring I wore on that finger, until I got my ERing and WBand.

And I wore them for over 20 years, until we Divorced.

Then having worn a ring on that finger for soooo long my finger was very very lonely.

I compensated by digging out an old School Ring and wearing that for a few years (hey it was ALL About Me at that point in time, and School was an accomplishment worthy of that status / finger)

Mr TTR & I dated for 6 years before we got engaged… he likes to buy me costume jewellery and such.  My “Ring Finger” was never empty.  I’d wear whatever Latest Ring he’d given me on that finger, and my Right Hand was open to wear whatever else I chose.

So I was I suppose “sending” a message… My Ring Finger is where the BEST will be featured !!

I loved all the rings he gave me, but I used to tease him that none of them were the right colour (lol, altho a few of them were the right size… thinking back here to one mega sized fashion rock)

When it came time to look at buy an ERing, is when my lifelong superstitions kicked in.

I was brought up that it was BAD LUCK to put an ERing / WBand on your Wedding Ring Finger BEFORE the event.  Fortunately for me, my RH Ring Finger is the same size.  So that is what I did.  I know the Jewellery Store Clerks got a bit of a kick out of it.

BUT in the early days it made ring shopping easier, cause as soon as I put it on my RH, the sales pressure wasn’t the same (might also have been cause I am older tho too)… as we got closer to making the actual purchase, the Salesman was surprised to discover it was to be my ERing… lol, then the pressure to buy really ramped up… but it was too late, he was pretty ineffective by then with his strong arm tactics, cause we’d already made up our mind etc.

But it was fun to watch all the same.

    Hope this helps,

The only other rings I wore on that finger was a promise ring from my ex that I ended up losing. Then DH’s promise ring I wore for about 7 months before we got engaged. 🙂
