I am getting married in the DR in 2 weeks, and I am fretting like a small child over the airport transfer issue. We have 30 guests coming to Punta Cana, and they can either fly into airports in Punta Cana or La Romana, which is farther away. I told my guests that anyone who flew into LRM as a group of over 4 people, I’d pick up their transfer (since its more expensive, and farther away). That covers 11 people…
For the others that are coming to Punta Cana, or are flying into La Romana on their own, should I just send them a link to a transfer place? This feels….rude. Or something. Like, I asked these people to come all this way and I can’t even pay for everyone’s transfer? (BTW, transfers are $25 – $100 pp, each way, depending on how many are in the van)
I am really not stressed about the rest of this wedding, but this seems to be my bugaboo.

hmmm, don’t most people book an all inclusve package to those places? which would normally include the transfers? that’s how it was for my wedding in Jamaica. I didn’t even consider covering the transfers for my guests (as in, it didn’t cross my mind as something to do) and i don’t think the guests considered that i would either. I mean if they are paying their own airfare and hotel, why would they suddenly expect you pay their airport transfers? it’s part of the travel costs if they decide to attend to your DW.

We are not doing a DW but we have a really high percentage of out-of-town guests coming into two different airports. For the International guests who are coming into the far-away airport, we are either picking them up personally (fi’s parents) or paying for a car service, fortunately we got the car service via Groupon so it’s not too painful, and they all land around the same time so we can minimize the number of cars.
For the domestic guests, most are coming from the close-in airport, and for these I simply provided a list of their transportation options (super shuttle, taxi, subway) and approximate cost. Fortunately the cost to the hotel from that airport is pretty cheap, usually under $15, so I don’t feel bad allowing the guests to absorb this. We simply have too many guests and too many arrival times to line up the transit for all of them, and from that airport, a taxi really is cheaper than a transit service.

@Miss Grey: omg im going through the same dilemma right now!!! I’m getting married in DR as well, and flights are SO MUCH cheaper flying to Santo Domingo and La Romana rather than straight into Punta Cana. We are also contemplating paying for guest’s transfers from the farther airports. We got quoted the following
From Santo Domingo-
- 2 people in a van it’s about $199 per person, round trip.
- 6 people sharing the van -$90 per person, round trip.
From La Ramona
- 2 people $99 per person, round trip
- 4 people $55 round trip per person, round trip.

Have you checked out https://dominicanairporttransfers.com/default.aspx? You might get some lower fares there.

We did not pay for airport transfers because it was just so confusing.
Most people rented their own cards. Some had airport transfer included in their package. In the end there were maybe only 6 people (all to different places) who had to take a taxi but the taxi was pretty cheap (maybe $10 per trip). We could not book those taxis in advance and the 6 people were all arriving at different times. The only one to pay for airport transfer was to reimburse them so we decided not to do it.

@Miss Grey: Thanks for the link! I put our guest dates in, but found it to be pricier than the rates I got. Maybe because it’s in October???
