I’m not currently working, but Fiance is a software developer at an online company. He has a big role in making sure their sales are always up and the company is making profit. We invited his boss to our wedding, since Fiance has worked there for 5 years. His boss declined, but wanted to take us out to dinner so he could give us a wedding present. I thought the present would be something small off our registry, but to my surprise he handed us a check for $2,000! I couldn’t believe how generous he was!
Did anyone else get an unexpected gift from their boss or from FI’s boss? Feel free to share your stories.

My boss is my dad so he probably will! Lol! 🙂

I really doubt my director will get me something. She didn’t even know I was getting married until I put in PTO request for my honeymoon. Ha. I’m sure she doesn’t even remember. Plus I work night shift so I never see her anyways.

That’s so kind of your boss. I work at a large law firm so I don’t have just one boss, but I am inviting a few partners to our wedding and hopefully they will be generous! 🙂 I know it’s common to give our secretaries $1,000 for Christmas so we’ll see what they give me! 🙂

My employer has 14,000 employees…. For my 5th year on the job I got the company standard $25 award. So I’m not expecting a cent from them! It’s okay with me, though; I like to keep my personal life separated from my work life.

@fishbone: I feel the same way about work and personal life.

I work in a SMALL company..aka only my boss and I work there lol So we have a closer relationship than your usual boss/employee relationship. I invited her to my engagement, wedding and bridal shower. Cause if I didnt it would be SUPER awkward if she found out.
She sent flowers for my engagement but didnt come. For my bridal shower she made it supersuper awkard and said shes getting me a gift/what do I want O_O kill me. But said she cant make it lol And for my wedding shell be there. I dont want her to get anything for me but it would be rude to not invite her, I know shed be mad.

I’m terrible at accepting gifts (I get an overwhelming sense of guilt when I get them for some reason) so I’m hoping our boss doesn’t get us anything.
But since we both work for him, have been out to dinner with him and his wife, worked on his equipment when it broke, and he asked us if we had a keurig (the thing Fiance is most excited that we registered for lol) and where we register…..I think we are getting something.
Hopefully I can maintain composure and accept it with dignity lol.

Yep! My FI’s partner gave us an unlimited budget for our honeymoon! He was trying to send us to Europe but we are just going to do Maui instead.

At my workplace we get a card and then everyone pitches in whatever amount they want to buy a gift card. I’ve done this a few times for coworkers’ weddings and I’m looking forward to getting the card/gift card for my wedding 🙂

My boss gave me $1000 (in addition to a tangible gift his wife sent us) and instructed me that I MUST use it for something frivolous on our honeymoon and he wanted to hear all about it when we got back lol.

Geez you girls have some nice bosses!

Wow! I’m not expecting anything from my boss directly, but likely the office gift where the card and envelope goes around and everyone contributes what they want.

My Fiance and I are both grad students. His advisor might give us something, but nothing close to $2,000! You all are making me want a boss just for the crazy presents! haha.
