I started trying on dresses the past 2 weekend and expected it to be a mom-daughter kind of thing. When I mentioned going to my dad he asked what time so he could go too…this shocked me because its usually a girl thing, but my dad is very sweet and just awesome all around and told me how everything looked great one me…only thing he did that upset me was pointing out how we were missing someone (my grandmother passed in january and was supposed to be dress shopping with me now), which i know was not intended to hurt or make me upset…anyways i was touch and very happy he came, and on top of that my brother actually wanted to come too…i guess i dont have normal men in my family…anyone else have unexpected people come dress shopping with them?

@Bunni0929: Awwww that is so cute!!! And unexpected lol! My dad wouldn’t go do ANYTHING wedding-related with me even if I paid him $1,000,000 ha!

My dad couldn’t come but only because he would have been sobbing at everything I put on. I tried on my junior prom dress for fun at home and he started crying!!
On another note…he did the same sort of “reminder that Grandma isn’t here” thing at a dinner once! He casually mentioned that it was the anniversary of her death. What the heck, our dads?

@Bunni0929: I didn’t grow up with a mother in the home, but I have always been very close to my dad.
I asked him to go dress shopping with me but he is such a man’s man that he wasn’t too into the idea, but said he would if I really wanted him to.
I ended up getting a dress online, but I would have loved to go dress shopping with him.
You are a lucky girl!

@Bunni0929: I live 450 miles from my parents, and my mom was nice enough to make the trip up to go shopping with me. My dad opted to stay home because he’s not super interested in fashion, but he was very happy to see the pictures afterwards!
That’s very sweet of your father to want to go with you.

@Bunni0929: My dad will absolutely be there. My mom is not a part of my life, and she never will be — even if she wants to be. I wouldn’t dream of anyone else being there besides my dad.

My dad came a couple times, but then he decided he didn’t want to see my actual dress and wanted it to be a surprise. I was surprised by that, because he has actually shockingly good taste. He picked both mine and my sister’s prom dresses. I told him he has “the queer eye for the straight guy” hahah.

@peachacid: i rememer trying on prom dresses and my dad being there and now trying on wedding dresses and him wanting to go, he wants to be a part of everything…he didnt cry though..maybe on the actual wedding day he will…and yea guess our dads like to keep our grandmoms memory alive..i understand it but its still kinda new for me…even though shes been gone 9 months now i cant talk about her without getting teary eyed.
@Pinkmoon: i like that idea. i wanted my dad to be skocked by my dress too and not see it until the wedding day but i wanted his opinion on dresses efore trying them on

I did a first look with my Dad! He was definitely not allowed dress shopping (not that he would EVER ave wanted to go!)

My dad is a real man’s man and it also meant he would have had to travel into the city which he HATES! My mum came up twice for me though which was lovely! If you don’t go dress shopping with your dads ladies I would suggest involving him somehow. My dad made our favours and they turned out amazing and he was so proud of them!

I did! It wasn’t originally in the plan — my dad drove my mom and I to the salon and then went to a Starbucks to do some work, but when I tried on the dress that ended up being THE DRESS, she called my dad and he came from the coffee shop to see it. He didn’t cry, but came pretty close, and told my mom later that I took his breath away.

My dad has not and will not be going with us. It iisn’t that I wouldn’t enjoy him there, it’s that he can’t see spending that much money for a dress. I’m afraid it might give him a heart attack! We will however show him pictures after and may be once the dress is done and paid for he can go to a fitting with us.

I took my dad along with the whole family to see the dress I wanoted to buy, but I didn’t wake him on any initial trips.

My dad has yet to see my dress, but he’s coming out to LA next week to help with the move and he’s already requested to see it. Added bonus is that he’ll also get to see my veil which no one else has seen yet.
Sounds really sweet that he wanted to be involved like that!
